Flickr Plasmoid
KDE Plasma 4 Extensions
Score 68%
Description:

A simple plasmoid that shows a slideshow of the current "interesting" images on flickr.

* Images are displayed for 2 minutes before cycling.
* Images are cached in ~/.flickrPlasmoid and are currently not automatically removed so you may have to clean up manually every now and then.

Hi,
me again. ;-) Another idea:
How about showing photos from the cache folder while being offline? Much better the showing an empty frame.

I really like your plasmoid! Thanx for your work. To make it even more useful I have two suggestions:

- I would like to look up an interesting shown image on flickr. How about a click to open konqueror with the appropriate URL?

- Is it possible to use flickrPlasmoid with a proxy? In some environments I have to use a proxy but configuring a proxy in KDE is not enough...

Thanx
Markus

Hi

Great and nice job job ! However when I tried to reduce the frame size, it came back to the original size when changing pictures. Hope you can fix that.

Thanks

Hi,

I think it would be cool, if it would load the next picture on click (just in case you don't like one...)

Thanks,
Frank

After installing FlickrPlasmoid, I got unexpected system freezes ...
I also noticed problems(unrelated to FlickPlasmoid) with my connection to the net.
It seems that combination of both got me the system freezes...

If I remember well, there is a plasma component for this kind of things. In theory, at least, one should be able to write a backend for flickr, and then use the Photo applet/plasmoid to access it.

But I have no idea if this has been implemented already nor how to use it. Maybe the http://techbase.kde.org/ says more?

Hey, i'd be nice to have the photos of my friends from flickr displayed - or family as an option - or even mine photos
because as you know there's a possibility to tag your contacts as "friends and/or family"
so 5 options for pics source would be nice

1 mine
2 my friends group members
3 my family group members
4 all of the above
5 pics marked as 'interesting'

Yeah, I'd like to do something like that in the future. But a lot of the required Flickr API's require authentication so implementing the widget gets much more complicated. I will have a play around and see what I can come up with.

I like it but why don't you move the cache folder to ~/.kde4/share/apps/yourapplet or in more appropriate place somewhere else ? Hidden folders in the home directory are just a mess :-/

Hi, I did think about that but I wasn't sure if ~/.kde4 is a standard directory or if some distributions would use ~/.kde instead. Presumably there is some API to get the KDE home directory, I just haven't found it yet!

I think $KDEHOME gives you kde home.
