Hi there,

Currently that option isn't available. To achieve this, Daisy would have to be inside a panel-like container, so it would be able to behave as a panel. Currently Daisy is a regular widget.

A new version is being worked on, using a panel-like container that will provide a better user experience.

Regards.

Thank you for the reply.
By the way, I started to test KDE 4.5 today, and daisy does not work on it. Have you seen it? Do you know when it will be fixed?

I tried put daisy inside a panel, it just did not work, is there really a way to do that? how?

No, not in this version. Lechio wrote: "A new version is being worked on, using a panel-like container that will provide a better user experience." To use daisy as a Panel we have to wait.

Recently the package for Arch Linux was renamed and has a new URL: http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=31392

The website should be updated, it still points to the old URL.

Hi. Thanks for reporting this. This problem seems to be related with the Taskmanager library. I was unable to reproduce this behavior with Inkscape. Could you please check if it's still behaving like this with this new release?
Regards.

In order to compile, i had to change these lines:
line 873 from taskitem = new TaskManager::TaskItem::TaskItem(this, m_task); to taskitem = new TaskManager::TaskItem(this, m_task);
and line 899 from taskitem = new TaskManager::TaskItem::TaskItem(this, m_task); to taskitem = new TaskManager::TaskItem(this, m_task);
in file daisy.cpp

If I run Inkscape as a daisy launcher or from the applications kicker and attempt to "save as" the Inkscape file dialog opens and the desktop crashes. Inkscape and the system continue to run but the monitor screen remains black.

Yet when daisy is removed from the desktop the desktop doesn't crash.

Problem only occurs if Inkscape is a launcher in daisy.

I've included thread 1 of the kde crash handler which indicates daisy to be the cause of the crash.

I had to apply this patch at [1] in order to make it compile with GCC 4.5. I have not tested whether this works for GCC 4.4, though.

As Daisy might be seen as a panel replacement - is there a way to add something like "show on all activities" or "clone layout to other activity"? I'm a bit unhappy on having to repeat the process of adding buttons etc. on all of my activities (first time and when I change something).

Report

Lechio

Yes there is. The new Daisy will use a new container that will behave the same way as the panel, this means that it will be shown on all of the different activities. It will also have the possibility of being shown on top of other windows.

Which version do you mean? In the new 0.4.23 it is not available as it seems - or is it just me who cannot find the option?

Hi,

I’m writing a simple launcher (“pyRad”, far simpler and less powerful than daisy and not Plasma based) and I wondered where you get your info which program belongs to which open window. Is there some simple way I missed?

PS: Kudos for Daisy! It looks very impressive!

Hi there,

Daisy to get information about tasks currently uses the KWindowSystem and TaskManager libraries. To match tasks with the launchers Daisy incorporates a new feature that was named "Alias", it's nothing more than the Window Class. The API is not very complicated to figure out, have look at the documentation on techbase or look at the header files of these.
If I can assist you any further, contact me and I'll gladly help out in what I can.

Thank you for your comment, and best wishes. :)

Just an update on the work being done, right now a custom container is already made (based on panel), this will allow the option of adding other applets to the dock; here's how it currently looks (Daisy, Smooth tasks and System tray applet showing in the container):
http://img686.imageshack.us/img686/7057/snapshot4r.jpg

Much work still has to be done, the new release will be available as soon as it is usable.
Thank you for your support!

Looks very nice.

Two small questions though:

Why a new 'panel'? Couldn't the app. launcher/icon holder be a normal widget (integrated to the existing panel)?

Does the "taskbar/icon launcher" part of daisy is a widget that can be removed or replaced?

From what it looks like, we'll finally get a decent docker in kde!

Thanks for that
