Oxygen Gtk
QtCurve
Score 78%
Description:

Oxygen-Gtk is a port of the default KDE widget theme (Oxygen), to gtk.

Its primary goal is to ensure visual consistency between gtk and qt-based applications running under kde. A secondary objective is to also have a stand-alone nice looking gtk theme that would behave well on other Desktop Environments.

Unlike other attempts made to port the kde oxygen theme to gtk, this attempt does not depend on Qt (via some Qt to Gtk conversion engine), nor does render the widget appearance via hard coded pixmaps, which otherwise breaks everytime some setting is changed in kde.

Hosting:
- tarballs are hosted on kde ftp servers
- git repository is hosted at https://projects.kde.org

Download
- First link point to a tarball of the official 1.0 release
- Second link point to a tarball of the official 1.1 release
- Third link point to the git repository. For the GTK 2.x version, one can get the latest sources from master branch using
git clone git://anongit.kde.org/oxygen-gtk

and from the GTK 3.x version, using
git clone -b gtk3 git://anongit.kde.org/oxygen-gtk

Installation:
- See the INSTALL file in the top-level directory.
- You will likely need gtk+2.0 dev packages, as well as Cairo

Authors:

Release:
We plan to follow the same release schedule as KDE:
- one minor bug-fixing release every month;
- one major feature release every six month.

Bugs:

See the README file in the top-level directory, for a list of possible issues with the style.

Bugs and feature requests can be sent to KDE bug tracking system (https://bugs.kde.org/). You would need to select Product=Oxygen, and Component=gtk-engine

you do need the 64 bits flag.
you also need to "make install" (which you did not mention)
and finally you need to select the oxygen-gtk theme either via KDE's systemsettings, or by editing your $HOME/.gtkrc-2.0 (or smthing similar)

See the README for details.

ok... I compiled with the 64 bit flag and now all my gtk apps are pretty... there is a problem however.

It seems that in gtk applications when I move my mouse down on a drop down list the app crashes giving me this in counsel
(as seen with gedit... this also happens in simple scam, gimp, evolution ad inkscape)

The program 'gedit' received an X Window System error.
This probably reflects a bug in the program.
The error was 'BadMatch (invalid parameter attributes)'.
(Details: serial 5901 error_code 8 request_code 56 minor_code 0)
(Note to programmers: normally, X errors are reported asynchronously;
that is, you will receive the error a while after causing it.
To debug your program, run it with the --sync command line
option to change this behavior. You can then get a meaningful
backtrace from your debugger if you break on the gdk_x_error() function.)

also for some odd reason this does not effect google chrome

I am running kde/kubuntu 4.5
(one below the newest kde)

mmm. That looks serious.
Basically you're having problem with us setting ARGB colormaps on menus.
Never heard of that before ...
I need to think.

Report

Try starting your apps like this:

OXYGEN_DISABLE_ARGB_HACK=1 program_name

and check if the problem still persists.

Report

hutty

yes... that does help... no more crashing ...

Is there a possible fix for this
(other than typing every gtk program I have into the black list file?)

Report

l0ll0lll

Well, currently you can blacklist all the programs by adding "disable:all" string.
But still, this is just a work-around.
For debugging, a backtrace of the crash with app run using --sync option is needed.

Report

hutty

--sync does not give any new output... do I need to look for a log file somewhere?

Report

10110111

You should start the program via gdb (best is having compiled oxygen-gtk with debug info and having installed GTK+ debug info):

gdb program_name
(wait for loading of debug infos)
break gdk_x_error
(answer y if asked about not yet loaded libs)
r --sync
(breakpoint triggers here)
bt
(backtrace is printed)

Report

hutty

well now I ran into a few more problems

recompiled with empty blacklist and in debug

gedit started crashing on open due to a segmentation fault

tried your commands with simplescan instead.

the final report came out as no stack

then kde started having problems redrawing windows

then the x server crashed

and kde would not start up properly (it wouldn't update any windows
(I couldn't even get kicker to open)

...next few steps were taken from previous problems with kde...

logged into gnome
removed ati driver
restart
enable ati driver
restart
no change

screw up gnome while trying the oxygen-gtk theme there

restart

login using fluxbox

change gtk theme in kde config from there

no change

delete current plasma config

no change

change effect settings from high to low (because somewhere along the lines before porblems occured I chaged it from low to high.

all problems solved

in order to avoid more catastrophes I will stick to blacklisting all gtk apps

It still looks great while blacklisted :D

Report

This means the problem is likely not with oxygen-gtk, but rather with your video driver (oxygen-gtk is just triggering the driver bugs).

Report

hutty

that or I happen to have a bad install of one of the dependencies

or the special effects in gnome are on off (and for some reason are stuck on off)

or something else....

with everything black listed the theme looks and works great. Thanks for the help :D

also, please note: bugs are better reported on https://bugs.kde.org. Makes everybody's life easier for book-keeping :)

Anyway. Trying to reproduce now.

Ok. I can reproduce (with master etc).
Filed a bug report for you. See:

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=267881

I know where the problem comes from (our combobox list resize hook), but not sure yet how to fix.

Will keep updating the bug report.

Fixed.
That was a very stupid and recent bug of mine. Sorry for the trouble.

I assume you run from latest git (in master), since I could not reproduce the bug in any previous version. This is cool :)

You should have no pain updating.

nice project. Keep up the effort :-)

Used the theme with xfce (no kde fonts/icons) for a while, but I seem to have trouble recovering without graphic distortions with this theme, so I went back to equinox.

After suspend/hibernate fonts seem to come up unreadable. Logging out/logging back in fixes the fonts

System: Debian, Xfce46, compiz, intel GMA965, amd64

Report

l0ll0lll

Have never seen such problem with xfce. Does the problem reappear if you start X server via this command:
startx /usr/bin/xterm
then start some non-xfce apps (e.g. GIMP) from xterm window, and suspend/resume after this?
Also, does using another WM than compiz fix the problem?
Does the problem exist for previous versions of oxygen-gtk (use "git reset --hard v1.0.0" to reset the tree to version 1.0.0 etc.) ?
Also, i'd like to see a screenshot of the distortions.

Thnx for the reply.

Tried with XFWM4 instead of emerald - same result

I'll see to the failsafe startx and will downgrade, tomorrow. :-)

As I said,no probs with equinox engine,afict

Report

Most likely the problem is intel video driver (see corrupted desktop background, not only fonts). You can prove it by checking if the problem remains with vesa xorg driver.
Though i don't know what's different between oxygen-gtk and equinox font rendering... will have to see equinox code.
