Cezanne Icon Theme
Individual Icons
Description:

Hello,

Provided here is a packaged version of the Cezanne icon theme, available as either a prebuilt set or unbuilt+script (smaller download, and easier to add additional icons to).

The set includes the latest versions of icons which I previously released as separate packages.

As usual, I welcome any comments and suggestions, so if there are any icons you would like to see added or changed, just leave a message letting me know what and/or how.

Ciao for now,

Chris

p.s. The O'Reilly icons are not included in this set,as they have to be released under a different licence.

How do I change the KDE menu icon from the default penquin? I use FreeBSD and wnated to change it to Chucky the daemon. I replaced a number of files in the 48x48, 64x64, and other icon sets, but the penquin remains. If it helps I've got my menubar icons set at Large.

Thanks. The icons look great. Can't wait until you add more.

Hi -

the kmenu icon is name 'go.png' and can be found in 'apps' folder. Changing this and restarting KDE should have the desired effect.

Alternatively, if you build the theme from the script version available above you can specify whatever icon you want to use for the kmenu.

Hope that solves the problem!
...more icons coming in January!

Hmmmm...

I've change the go.png AND kmenu.png icons in the apps folder for sizes 32x32, 48x48, 64x63 and 128x128 and I am still showing the tux icon on my kmenu. Is there another size I need to change?

Thanks.

Is there another icon I should try changing?

hmmm...kde must cache the icon somewhere, but having taken a look through my home cache I couldn't find anything.

A guaranteed way would be:
1. Copy the entire icon theme folder (~/.kde/share/icons/Cezanne) to a new location
2. Change the go.png icons to the images you want.
3. make a tar archive from the folder
4. uninstall Cezanne
5. install your customised cezanne theme from your tar archive.

That's the best I can think of, I'm afraid!

It's a really nice iconset. However, I'd suggest something different for konsole (it looks nice in 128x128, but horribly in 48x48). Just my opinion.

Continue the good work! And please make more icons for apps (konqueror, kdevelop, etc).

Thanks - it's good to know these things. I use the icons myself at 64x64, which is the size I would recommend them. Obviously not everyone wants or can have them that big....at some point I will be making alternates for the smaller sizes (16x16 up to 48x48). This will probably happen within the next two planned updates....also there will definitely be more application and device icons!

It crashed konqueror and will not load it anymore because it corrupts something. I think it's a config file. I had to find a backed up .kde directory and replace my current one to fix this.
It happens when I clicked on decrease icon size in konqueror. Here's the output..
[p0z3r][p0z3r]$ konqueror
ASSERT: "sizeIndex > 1" in konq_dirpart.cc (470)
WARNING: Pixmap not found for mimetype inode/directory
WARNING: Pixmap not found for mimetype inode/directory
WARNING: Pixmap not found for mimetype inode/directory
WARNING: Pixmap not found for mimetype inode/directory
.
.
.

and just keeps going for all mimetypes.
Just a heads up.

thanks for letting me know - I'll investigate. Sounds like it must be something in the index.desktop file (found in the theme's "root" folder)

Report

I think what the message is trying to say is that there is no folder icon (i,e. inode/directory) for the icon size 'x' (insert whatever icon size you are trying to set)

Are you using the pre-built or unbuilt theme?

I have been playing around with the index.desktop file in an attempt to reflect the theme contents more accurately but, thinking about it, some of the changes may not be compatible with Maitre's buildset script.

Replacing the index.desktop file with the one from here:
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/christopher.townson/index.desktop.tar.bz2
should resolve the problem whilst I get around properly editing the file. (This file can also be downloaded by clicking on the link above)

If the problem persists, please let me know and I'll go away and have a rethink.

Could you modify the PDF and PS icons to add a red tag on top that read PDF and PS (like the images have JPEG, TIFF, PNG, etc. in green). It would be very helpful especially for web design since not everyone immediately recognizes those signs and knows what they mean.

Thanks.

Yes...but please read the following:

[start legalese]

You may use these icons for either commercial or non-commercial purposes with no fee, providing the following conditions are observed:

a) I must be *clearly* credited as the original creator of these icons at an appropriate location(s) wherever they are employed, together with a link (or reference, in the case of offline media) to http://christopher.townson.biz

b) If you make any additional icons which can be considered to be part of the 'theme' or you make any alterations to icons which are currently in the theme, you must, likewise, make them freely available (preferably on this web site), together with the copyright notice detailed in paragraph (a).

[end legalese]

Phew, that's done! I like to think that, on the whole, matters such as this are all fine as long as people observe common sense and decency towards their fellow man...I am, therefore, quite happy for people to use these icons for whatever purpose as long they don't (implicitly or explicitly) attempt to claim they created them, and make it clear who did.

Vis-a-vis commercial use: if you are going to be using them for an organization that can afford to make a donation to my ailing, debt-ridden bank account, I would certainly appreciate that(:D), but I don't demand it. (Please email me at christopher at townson dot biz if you want to donate!)

------ A general message concerning copyright and icon use --------

I am not a lawyer but, as I understand things, the following applies:

For general information: because open-source 'creations' are already publicly available, they are covered under copyright law **except** where a specific alternative contract (such as that detailed above) has been explicitly entered into.

By downloading these icons from this site, you have agreed to enter into the licence contract under which I have made them available.

If you obtain these icons elsewhere (other than kde-look.org) and you don't ask me for permission to reuse them, and I think that you are attempting to abuse the spirit in which the work has been made available (i.e. it contravenes the Artistic 2.0 licence), I am within my rights to enforce standard copyright law.

Hi i still love your work but was just thinking the folders don't fit wel with the rest of the icons. Well i think you should design an other folders concept.

Keep up the good work !

Thanks for the feedback. I'm always trying to improve the theme, and I am open to positive criticism such as this.

If you are able, perhaps you could describe in more detail why you think the folders do not fit/how they could be improved?

Hi, as it concern the folders my opinion is that compared too the global style of the icons, whick look more like the rade8 icons than the crystal, the folders don't fit because they have the design of aqua-styled folders with the colors and deco of folders like crystal folders.

Well personnaly i would see something like the basic grey folder of the rade8 iconset (http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=13506) or something based ont the "paper folder" of everaldo (with a cezanne style of course)...

Mmm as i still lack english vocabulary i hope my comment isn't to much confusing, and you'll able to ehnance your set to my tast :p :p

If you have any other question regarding this message of simply with the iconset, i'll be glad to try to answer it.

Keep up this set as good as it started to be.

I agree that the folders do break the overall feel of the icon set. The devices and file type icons have a reflected light sort of look while the folders have a glossy sort of look to them. Also it's a pretty drastic change between the reflected light and glossy looks so I think it would be worth the time to re-work the folders.

Otherwise, I think this icon set is awesome and a nice change to the other sets that are out there. Keep up the good work and I think the final product will be something really amazing.

I think you both have a point there...
The folders started life as an attempt to produce some customised additions to Dave Brasgalla's 'World of Aqua' theme (available at http://www.iconfactory.com).

The device icons are definitely much more 'my own thing' and go for a softer, daylight-style reflection, rather than a gloss. Also, one of the purposes of Cezanne is to provide an alternative to the default, glossy 'cartoon' style of KDE.

I like the idea of 'paper' style folders. I think that could work well. I loved Everaldo's paper icons. Also Achim Vedam's avXicons (ported to WinXP by kol at http://www.studiotwentyeight.com/) do this style really well...I'll have to visit a stationery shop and stare at folders for a while!

When I have some time, I think I will have a go at reworking a folder. Results will be posted here and on my web site as soon as I get it done.

Thanks for the comments, guys.
