Crystal Clear
Icon Themes
Description:

Dear KDE Folks,

I have the pleasure to announce the new phase of Crystal Icon Theme that from now on will be called Crystal Clear. There are a lot of changes! Hundreds of new icons, support to the most known KDE games, and a lot of new things. The design style also was improved and updated to be more competitive with the market operational systems as well as the upcoming systems. I hope you like it!

As always I would like to thank some important people:

1- All the KDE users that always have supported my work and make my working nights really worth.
2- Linspire for the financial support of this project (you may not believe, but I have to eat so I keep living).
3- Nullmid, RELIO owner that kindly host online my projects.
4- God, for have gave me life and make all things possible.

Hi,

I like icons very much.

The KDE style could be more flat. It's just too much 3D.

Super icon theme! And I'm really happy you're also providing a mozilla theme. But 2 Questions:

1. how do I install the jar file?
2. can I use it for Firefox, too? (if not: could you make one for the more famous Firefox, too?)

Thank you veeeerrryyyy much!!

Not sure you need to 'install' the jar. Once I had downloaded it it was showing as an available theme in the Firefox theme manager.

I might have just been lucky but then again....

BTW - wonderful Firefox theme

This is odd... How did you click on the link and what happened? If I click left, Firefox asks me whether it should save the file somewhere, or which application to open the file with. If I choose to save the file, I've "just" saved it (no entry in Theme list). If I select open (w/o choosing an app), the download window appears, the file is downloaded and nothing else happens either...

btw which Firefox version are you using? Me: 1.0.4

Just found this manual, but it DOESN'T WORK either...

Manually Installing Themes in Firefox from Mozilla Update
1. On the Theme's download page, click on the Install Now link.
2. A download dialog box will appear. Click Save to Disk and save the Theme's .jar file to your local disk (usually your Desktop).
3. Once the download completes, from the Firefox Tools menu, select Themes. Find the saved Theme's .jar file.
4. Drag and drop the Theme's .jar file to the Themes list. A Confirm dialog will appear. Select Okay to start the installation.
5. The Theme will be displayed in the Theme Manager.
6. Select the Theme, and restart Firefox to use that Theme.

Well, those icons sure fit extremely well to the bubble gum GUI of Microsoft Windows NT5.1. The last release was better IMHO.

Nice icons, but:

1.Back/Next/Home/Reload are lil too funky. A more stricter looks will be better.

2. Add few more folders options, such as for books, important, games, more color options

3. A script where where you can select which home button to use (debian, suse, kde, etc)

4. a buildset option, so to make the distribution file smaller in size (better for people on low bandwidth)

Other than that, the icons are really nice. Hope you will consider the above mentioned points.

Thanks.

If you're sick of that Linspire logo just run this script:

#!/bin/sh
cd ~/.kde/share/icons/Linspire\ Clear
rm $(find . -type d -name 'kde.png')
rm $(find . -type d -name 'kmenu.png')
rm $(find . -type d -name 'go.png')

and the original KDE logos will appear.

If you don't like the script just use Find Files from konqueror and delete: kde.png, kmenu.png and go.png

thanks for that script! the Linspire icons were my only major complaint with this set.

-type d, errr, wouldn't -type f be more reasonable?

OOOOps! So this should work:

#!/bin/sh
cd ~/.kde/share/icons/Linspire\ Clear
rm $(find . -type f -name 'kde.png')
rm $(find . -type f -name 'kmenu.png')
rm $(find . -type f -name 'go.png')

Thanks roccolord ;)

Hi Everaldo,
What license are you using for this icon set? Can one modify or replace some icons and redistribute?

A few comments: this icons are less cartoonish than crystal SVG and I think this is good. IMHO Back/Next/Home/Reload need improvement and are inferior to crystal SVG.

He reported on the kde-artists mailing list that it was LGPL.

I think they are a bit inconsistent. Some icons look like the old crystal ones, some like the Rade8 icons and there are some with the new style (the back, up, home actions in Konquerer for example)

Very good work. There are some missing icons like the development files (.c, .h, and so) but it's the first version, maybe in next releases it may become as complete as crystal svg.
I hope KDE will use it as KDE 4 default icon set (changing all the linspire references, of course)
By the way, does anybody know if the kicker in the screenshot is a mockup or is it the default Linspire theme? I've seen some screenshots of Linspire and it is not as good as everaldo's screenshot.

Really nice icons and pure quality work that I love so it pains be a bit to be critical but both the download link here and on your main site result in a download where the k menu and a number of other icons are labelled with either Linspire or Lindows. If a warning is in place I ddin't spot it and thought they were kde-centric.

Tbh that one thing stops me from using them as it would take quite a while to hack the icons (for personal use alone) to remove it.

Great work, sorry for the criticism.

kbfx, of course, typo!

anyway, why complaining, and not simply replaceing the startbutton with something you like? actually, i didnt even realize the "L" stands for linspire, i thought it stands for "Launch" - no kidding!

it seems he is using kbfx himself, look at the screenshot ;)

so please, dont flame this doode. thx!

Just to clear up, my comments weren't specifically realted to the start button alone and rather than being a flame (I hope it isn't anyway as I appreciate the work and like many of the icons) it's a request for something to be more clearly labelled.

Once you extract the tarball it's apparent that the theme is "linspire clear" rather than "kde clear" and things like konqueror, the kmenu, etc, are going to be rebranded but for the sake of re-naming the tarball to the same as the folder inside, it would give a great deal more clarity about what to expect.

They aren't "crystal clear" as the tarball suggests, they are "linspire clear". Pedantic I know, but there you have it.
