Nuvola
Individual Icons

Description:

t was april 2002 when I first started designing a little 48x48 icon and published it at kde-look.org.
It was an alternative “trashcan" for KDE 2. Since then I’ve continued designing icons and started many themes to increase my skills and improve design quality, these were: "Desktop icons", "Sky", "Lush" and finally "Nuvola".

It tooks me more than a year to reach version 1, the more professional, consistent and complete Nuvola theme ever released, it will turn your KDE in an eyecandy colourful desktop.

If you never tryed Nuvola what are you waiting? give it a try! For the others waiting this release since a long time… download Nuvola 1.0 now!

Have fun and enjoy your desktop!

your icons are really good and i commend you for that however, i think your going the way of too much crystalization instead of making your own style out of this. the circled arrows, home icon, stop and reload icons are resemblant of everaldos crystal. im not sure if you want to go the same way but for me this is just following.

and the kde icon, the official logo has something to do with gears behind it. instead of a blue ball can you make that a 3/4ths of a gear like the official logo?

yeah, nuvola uses same colors, and the same style of the crystal theme, there are two reasons:

1:when I started nuvola I was a newbie with vector gfx, so I understanded many things looking to the crystal svg icons.

2:the icon gap beetween nuvola and the default theme (crystal) was impressionant when I started (and still impressionant), so I opted to do a theme that fit well with the existing icons. I'm working alone for my own pleasure and I don't know if I'll never release a version .1 of my themes (nuvola and lush).

About "actions" I like the crystal ones and have done something similar. But if you open Mozilla with the modern theme you'll see that the "crystal" action are the same of mozilla.

I was needing consistent "actions" in SVG format for the gnome version of nuvola that uses SVG files. Next version of gnome (2.4) will have nuvola svg in their extra-theme packages.

About Menu icon I don't think I've to put the original KDE logo since this is not an official theme. Right now I like this icos as it is, but in the future probably I'll try doing a better one.

PS: if u want a differnt theme try my Lush icon theme, is very clean and his style is far from crystal, aqua, noya etc.

Which monitors are you using in your screenshots? They look very nice and useful.

it's a karamba theme. you have to download karamba first, you can find it posted here on kde-look.

You should look at making them consistent:
It's always an icon on a white rectangle but sometimes the icon is centered and sometines it's on the left.
Some are smaller than others...

All in all it's great but I think that's an important detail to sort out.

We're another step closer to giving KDE a variety of plastic-y looks. :)

Crystal: clear, hard plastic
Noia: opaque, hard plastic
Nuvola: opaque, flexible plastic

I love this texture! Excellent work.

Sorry for the language
Ciao
Secondo me cos

Sorry to say that - buy i dont like those.

Sky set was much better. I really wish you make it in svg and continue to work on, instead of pretty much fall under iron foot of crystal (sorry, Everaldo, but latest versions of crystals are worst thing ever. At least on my monitor and for my eyes)

Ciao,

ciao

Which I really liked (because of the clarity and outlining) these are good icons, but not in my taste.

It is a bit sad to hear you will not continue the path of Sky Icons, but of course these will surely appeal to a lot of people (who also like Crystal and XP type Icons)..

I wish some KDE icondesigner would opt for the cleaner / stricter type of icons again. Admittedly Hicolor and the likes were never _very pretty_ but they were clear and nice. The oulining makes things that much better for icons, IMHO..

But, good luck with this set :)

I loved work on SKY but pixel based icons take a long time, especially to create them in different sizes.
Nuvola just want to fit well with the new look&feel of kde 3, but I'll work akso in other icon themes totally differents from nuvola and sky.

I agree with your point. These icons are very nice but like e.g. crystal and noia I think they are too "fuzzy" and not readable enough for everyday use - especially the toolbar icons.

So I'm back to the Sky icon set, although I grabbed the orange folder from this icon set as my "default" folder icon - looks quite nice with my colour scheme ;).

I guess this is the beauty of the KDE icon system. You can choose the best parts from everywhere.

Hi all

Is there a way to force load the icons rather than using the control center ~ look n feel module. Im using mandrake 9.0 & kde3.0 and the icons just wont load for me.

If you're trying to load the preview it's not installable and you will have to copy the icons manually into an existing icon set or choose the icons individually.

However, I believe Dave has threathened to upload the installable icon set "very soon", so maybe you should wait for that.

I believe Freshmeat Themes offers up to 5 Megs of space. The one thing I don't like about them is that they approve everything that goes through once a day, so it can take sometimes a day before your project appears.
