Description:

Smooth iconset for KDE -- Created using Adobe Illustrator 10. If anyone is interested in a window decoration/widget theme, and knows how to code it, let me know -- It's already being done for GTK/Metacity, and all it needs is someone to transfer the look to QT/KWin.

...is a bad idea? That's where most of the recent additions are, and I've been trying to make them as colorful as possible. Would it be a better idea to make the original (grey-ish) icons colorized, or to tone down the saturation on the newer ones?

I'd definitely tone down the saturation... The greyer tones are much more artistic and appealing... Your first set of icons really look the best. If anyone wants colorful "tele-tubby" icons, let them use Winblows XP. Keep up the good work.

These are really nice looking, but they're a little too grey for my personal liking. Keep up the good work, though.

KDE really needs this kind of look. Keep up the great work. As far as comparing these to crystal, you can't. They are both completely different. Good job man!

Great artistwork! I really think it looks good but there is two major things that makes me keep Crystal.

1) Crystal is kinda greater, and the old 2.x Hi-color also.
2) They looks very Gnomish, great for the KDE community that it can please everyone but I can't stand them to long.

Good luck / Greetings from Scania, Europe.

I have to concede both points:
1) Crystal is infinitely better, sure, if you like it. It's definitely more complete (slightly more than 55 icons, I'd say). Everaldo's a professional; I believe he was paid for Crystal by Conectiva. I've done jobs before, but never for Linux. It's cool, though.
2) Yea, GNOME strives for photo-realistic icons, like OS X, and these do fall more under that category than they do under KDE's "Cartoonish" motif. In fact, they are currently being ported to Gnome2.

I have to agree with you, but I still like mine. Maybe I'm just prejudiced :)

Hey!

I just thought I'd point out that you need to change your link on this page (or the file you're pointing to).

The link here points to:

/themes/amaranth/amaranth-default-0.4.tar.gz

But the real file name is:

amaranth-default-.4.tar.gz

(note the lack of the zero in the file name)

I just thought I'd mention it.

Hi,

nice work!
How did you get the icons out of Illu10? My png exports looked like ...em, pieces of sh....

Can you tell me how to export them with good quality?

Ciao

Well, either I export the Illustrator files as psd's or I just open up the Illustrator (.ai) files in Photoshop, and rasterize them at 128, or whatever I need.

Great work, man! Please, do not add more colours to your icons, we have plenty of other coloured collections. These are simple and clear, especially when used with appropriate window decorations. Keep up the good work :)

those folder icons are not my preferred ones... and I think they are not completely similar to the style of the other icons.

Anyway, good work man!

I just replaced the folder with a (much) more refined version of what was 'folder2.png.' Any improvement?

these look excellent in the style you are doing. I don't think cramming a bunch of color in them will make them look as good. That is just my opinion though. Keep up the excellent work!

I've been visiting kdelook.org for a very long time, but this is the first time I've posted. I think your icon ideas are great. The thing that I appreciate about this set of icons is that it is graceful, clear, simple, and most of all NOT super-colorful; it doesn't look like a Fisher Price "My First KDE. " While a lot of the icons on kdelook.org are clearly the result of hard work and creativity, for me it's a little difficult to concentrate on what I want to use my computer for, when everything on the screen is a bright multi-colored attention grabber.

This is one of the best iconsets.
It might be the best addition to kde since noia.

Thanks, but i've got nothing on Carlitus. Noia's awesome, just a little too, err, cartoonish for me. Which I guess is the point, nyet?

Why does everyone always want color? Well, I just added some basic devices (cdrom, cdwriter, hdd, floppy, mp3player), and they're all (except cdwriter, which is red/yellow) in a dark-blue gradient. If these look good, I'll do more colored apps.

The colored ones look great, as do the grey/blue ones. Excellent work. I'd like to see more of both :)
