Description:

Skulpture is a GUI style addon for KDE programs. It features a classical three dimensional artwork with shadows and smooth gradients to enhance the visual experience.

Skulpture has been designed to be light and easy on eyes; many distracting borders or graphical elements have been removed or replaced by simpler artwork. See NOTES and README for additional information.

Skulpture is released as source code under the GNU GPL version 3 license; see INSTALL for installation instructions and COPYING for additional information.

Gentoo build kindly provided by Franz Fellner, Thanks! For binary packages, please check with your distribution.

It remembers me of the "old" KDE 3.5, but nice work anyway.

How about skulpture settings profiles with import-export capabilities?

Think about predefine netbook and over small factor devices profiles.

Planned, yes. In the meantime, you can just copy/share your ~/.config/SkulptureStyle.ini file :) Not exactly elegant, but with the current limited amount of options, I did not see the need to make an import/export feature.

Merry Christmas!

THX U for your work on this! This is the only real alternative for the excellent oxygen-style!

I love the elegantly compact-look from Skulpture!

Please speak up soon if there are remaining issues, because due to a wired bug with arrow configuration, I will have to release a 0.2.2 version before I go back to coding the 0.3 series, but 0.3 is some months ahead. Thanks!

I just wanted to say that I'm so excited with the quality you've bled into this style. You've probably heard it enough already, but if not: Amazing job! Love what you're doing with this.

peace and respect

Thanks again, jamboarder. A coder cannot get enough feedback ;)

What happened to your intention to create a matching plasma theme? Now that we have a nice widget style and a simple window decoration I may start using KDE 4 fully, and I feel the need for a good plasma theme. If I only had your expertise on that topic :(

How about Elegance?

It's nice-looking and strict.

Yep, this is really excellent Artwork, but it shares two problems with most other Plasma themes: it is black, and it has rounded corners.

Hi eagle, thanks for your comments.

The roundness error was fixed in the 0.1.3.2 snapshot, see http://www.pastebin.ca/1078018 for the patch. It was not applied to 0.2 because I had hoped to merge the new frame engine (which I did not).

Regarding your suggestions, I tried some grips on scrollbar/sliders, but either my attempts failed, or they just do not belong to this style. Configuring arrow placement may be addressed in an update, I use a pen PC and I would like to see them both placed at the top.

I really like your theme. In the new beta KDE 4.2 it looks amazing. The only thing I think could use some work is the scrollbars. The block fits the theme but its too big and.. blocky lol. Try changing the size to 2/3rds or 3/4ths what it is now and see if it looks better. And thank you for incorporating color schemes into your theme. I had to edit the scheme for it to look right for me because you had a green or yellowish color for the selection background and it didnt fit the blue or gray theme for me. I ended up changing to #B4B4B4 color as my selection background and it looks perfect. The new Oxygen style uses a bluish panel and so I changed the Active Titlebar to #003D5A to match it. Once again, thank you alot for your hard work in creating this theme, definitely my favorite so far.

Thanks for your feedback! You can change the size of the scrollbars using the Layout options in the configuration dialog. And I agree that the color schemes need some work; now that Skulpture respects more KDE colors, they should be updated.

Fantastic, 0.2.0 really brings great improvements. I just want to note two things:

1. The icons in System Settings are a few px too big and looks washy. That does not look beautiful.

2. The Dolphin Bar that shows the used disk-space is still in green colour, PLEASE PLEASE make them in the same color as the progressbar.

Hi goona, always on the bleeding edge :)

Regarding the icons, the idea was to test which applications use hard coded sizes, and which allow truly scalable icons. I don't know for sure why, KDE 4 ships SVG icons, but for some reason it still uses the PNG bitmaps, so they look blurry when scaled.

You can replace line 5179 with "return 32;" (or value 22, 48, or 64) to get sharp icons. I will add a configuration option in an update, if KDE 4.2 still does not use the SVG files.

About the coloring of the disk space gauge: You should be alarmed when the color gets red :) Okey, fun aside, you can disable the coloring by replacing line 6821 with "return false;" in skulpture.cpp source.

Hope that helps to solve your issues.

rendering (complex) svg is pretty slow (ok, could be catched cahing)
and (most important): QtSvg doesn't support (most?) inkscape additions to svg...
(also i think the oxygen team postpolishes the bitmaps)

Thanks for the clarification, Thomas. My impression was that KPixmapCache and its huge files in /var/tmp/ were actually used for the scaled icons.

it is (partially) but stores scaled images -> remains blurry

i think shdadow support is somewhat upon us, so sooner or later we'll (maybe) use svgs - still rendering a svg is (under icon conditions, small but complex) /ways/ faster than scaling an image

Thanks for such a beatiful style, love it!
I noticed you already released a new version here http://skulpture.maxiom.de/ (oops, sorry to spoil ;-)) so I made an experimental Gentoo Ebuild http://files.kucrut.org/ebuild/x11-themes/skulpture/skulpture-0.1.9.20.ebuild (you can add it to your download section if you want to skulptor). Gentoo folks, use at your own risk! :P
