Hi, and thanks! Sorry for the delay in the response...
Did you try putting them (or linking them) in ~/.local/share/icons ? I think some desktops are using this location for locally installed themes, instead of the ~/.icons one.
Flatpaks are more difficult to make them respect custom themes or icons. By default they don't follow them. This article explains how to do it: https://itsfoss.com/flatpak-app-apply-theme/
I hope it works for you! - Sep 12 2024
It looks nice, definitely! I just happened to read this message and it gave me joy to hear my theme recommended (I am the Eudaimon of the mentioned repo). The truth is that I don't remember why I didn't publish it here, and only stayed in my repo... did you find some issue with it (GlossyApertures I mean) or would you say it's ready for daily usage? I've used it myself for some time, but other people use other apps or desktop environments, so it's good to hear other use cases. Sorry for "hijacking" the thread (this should be about Aero45-beta), but there doesn't seem to be a private messaging system implemented here... - Jun 03 2024

One thing to bear in mind: deleting the icon might not always be the best way: if you are using a theme which updates itself (because you've installed it as a package, for example), when it is updated the icon will probably be restored. I'd only use this method if you don't intend to update the icon theme (which I don't think it is a good idea: icon themes should get regularly updated with new icons, or icon name changes!). - Mar 18 2024

Hi amgh! To prevent my theme (or any other one) from using an icon, I can only see two ways: the easy one: remove the "offending" icon from the theme. This can be harmless, unless other icons are symlinked to the one you want to remove. In the case of Steam or Firefox, I don't recall there being any icons other than the own applications (and some name variants). So I'd say it is safe to remove them. They're in the `apps` folder (case-insensitive names: firefox*, org.mozilla.firefox*, steam*, com.valvesoftware.Steam* and that's it, I'd say).
The other way that might work is to create an alternative .desktop file: copy the app's .desktop file to your local directory (for example: `cp /usr/share/applications/firefox.desktop ~/.local/share/applications/` and then edit that file (which takes precedence over the one in /usr/share/applications) and tell it use another icon (you can explicit the path to the icon, instead of using a generic icon name (with a generic name, the icon is taken from current theme)). Firefox installs its original icons in the `/usr/share/icons/hicolor` folder (you can check in your distro's package manager which files does the firefox app install, and select any version (I'd use the scalable version)). - Mar 18 2024

If I am not mistaken, the thing is that you need to indicate in LibreOffice another icon theme (LO does not detect whether the current icon theme is light or dark, nor tries to adapt it to current theme). Some LO icon themes, like Breeze, have a light and a dark version. Yaru theme (you can install it via an extension) is designed in such a way it looks good both in a dark or light theme. I hope this helps! - Jan 13 2024

Could you please post a link to an image of a screenshot that shows these artifacts? I hadn't experienced this because I've never used fractional scaling. However, if this happens with Kwin's window borders I would initially think it's a Kwin issue, because all elements in Kwin window decoration (that is, aurorae theme) are vector images (svg), which is the best format if something needs to be scaled, because it doesn't have pixels, but geometry information, so no blurring should happen. The only thing I can imagine is that Kwin renders assets at 1x scale and then it upscales them. If that's the case, it's clearly Kwin's fault. But anyway, I'd like to see a screenshot of the artifact, to better understand what's happening. Thanks! - Sep 03 2023

Hi,
In lines 1255-1259 you have the selectors for both :checked and :focus pseudoclasses (or "button states"). Personally I wouldn't show a :focus (which means "has keyboard focus") the same way that a checked (that is, pressed) button looks like. The thing is that there are broadly two types of buttons normal buttons and flat buttons (button.flat). Since you define the style for a .flat button (line 1129), I guess you also need to define for this all its states: :checked, :hover, :focus, etc. It is common that normal and a flat button both have the same aspect when checked, so typically you'd have a button:checked, button.flat:checked selector.
I hope it helps. - Sep 03 2023

You're right, there are actual different icons. Well, in my theme I have the following icons for Word and OpenDocument:
MS Word:
mimetypes/application-msword-template.svg
mimetypes/application-msword.svg
mimetypes/application-vnd.ms-word.svg
mimetypes/application-vnd.ms-word.template.macroenabled.12.svg
mimetypes/application-vnd.openxmlformats-officedocument.wordprocessingml.document.svg

OpenDocument (LibreOffice etc)
mimetypes/application-vnd.oasis.opendocument.text-template.svg
mimetypes/application-vnd.oasis.opendocument.text.svg
mimetypes/libreoffice-oasis-text-template.svg
mimetypes/libreoffice-oasis-text.svg
mimetypes/libreoffice-text-template.svg
mimetypes/libreoffice-text.svg

GTK3/4 Themes by nestort 24 comments

Hi! Well, the function of navigating via keyboard does not depend on the theme, but on the app. What does depend on the theme is the visual feedback of the element that has the focus. In this case I think they are flat buttons, which have the " button.flat " selector. In GTK3, there are some pseudoclasses that are used for the different statuses. The relevant one for buttons is :focus (which indicates keyboard focus). But bear in mind that a button may have different pseudoclasses applied, so you need to take care of the different combinations. The relevant ones are :hover, :active ("being pressed"), :checked (for toggle buttons that may stay pressed, when being in a pressed state) and :disabled. What I recommend is that the same style is applied to both :hover and :focus states. So maybe you just need to copy the selector with the button:hover whenever you find one, but changing the hover for focus. Example: if you find " button:hover { ...} " then change it for " button:hover, button:focus {....} ". Also, many themes' CSS are generated automatically from source Sass code. This CSS is not intended to be edited directly, and tends to look quite messy. If you have access to the source Sass, it's going to be much better if you can edit that source and recompile de CSS. It's not always easy to do this. In the Grass case, for example, I haven't provided the source Sass because it's a messy mix of original Azurra Framework's sass plus my customizations, and they're in different directories, etc. - Jul 20 2023

Hi! I love that you've decided to update Oxygen to support many more icons. :) There are a few things that I would love to see improved: First thing is that currently the library that Plasma uses to render SVG does not implement masks, so all icons that include them are not correctly displayed (for example all shadows in top right corner of mimetypes). This does not happen on other desktops. And also I would have some requests: differentiate OpenDocument mimes (odt, ods, etc.) from Microsoft's (doc, docx, xls, xlsx, etc.). Also, at least on Dolphin, the icons for icon view, compact view and detailed view look the same. By the way, I myself have been creating an extension of Oxygen, which I haven't published here yet: OwTwo, the repo is here: https://git.disroot.org/eudaimon/ow-two - Jul 19 2023

Actually the cause is not the Cinnamon folder (which is used to theme the menu and panels), but a peculiar decision from Cinnamon developers to use a "stack" element for the desktop. Stacks usually are only found in tabs, so I style them having this in mind. Now I've introduced a special selector for Cinnamon desktop to disable this styling only here. - Jul 15 2023

Yes, good idea. I've actually achieved something similar in my ClearCrystal theme (https://www.pling.com/p/2013507/), where I created a templating script that works both for GTK 2 and GTK3 - May 05 2023
ClearCrystal

GTK3/4 Themes by nestort 13 comments

I also use zsh, so I don't think that is the culprit, then... Does this happen only after having issued a `use_scheme.sh` command, or even just after having cloned the repo? What seems to happen is that the template file is processed but the substitutions (for example, for placeholders such as this ${vwindow_fg}) are not applied, so sass compiler finds the placeholder instead of the actual color (such as `#131320`). I really don't know why use_scheme is not working. Just another try: where do you execute this from? I always execute it from the `source/templates` directory (that is, where it resides). I have programmed it assuming this is the case, and I'm not sure if it would work otherwise. The same for compile.sh, I always call it from `source` directory. Do you, too? - Apr 26 2023
ClearCrystal

GTK3/4 Themes by nestort 13 comments

Hi! Do you use the `./compile.sh light` or `./compile.sh dark` command to generate the new theme? Do you use it after having issued the `./use_scheme.sh colorscheme-filename.sh` (where "colorscheme-filename.sh" is any of the different color scheme scripts provided)? Which shell do you use, if so? It works for sure in bash or zsh, but I don't know about other ones. For what you post, it's possible that color substitutions are not correctly applied to the template file (which is then copied to `common/_theme_colors.scss`), maybe because of a different type of shell? - Apr 17 2023

Definitely one of the best icon themes around here, which is perfect for non-flat or skeuomorphic themes, which I love. However, I'd like to request an improvement: XFCE has moved to using this new trend in icon naming, which is including the reverse domain of the organization behind the software. Thus, most current XFCE icons start with org.xfce. Papirus theme is one of the most complete themes, and can be a good guide to know which symbolic links to create. Thanks again for your efforts!
