Description:

A Gmail notification widget for your desktop or panel.

This widget is designed to be docked in a panel, or added to your desktop, and display the number of unread messages in multiple Gmail accounts. Clicking on the widget will open the Gmail account in your favorite browser. The widget is written in python, meaning that there is no compiling necessary as long as you have the required script-engine installed.

Features:
- *NEW* New simplified version re-implemented in qml and javascript available for testing (very early version with little error checking and many features missing and/or removed).

- Configurable command run upon clicking the widget
- Configurable notifications using the KDE notification system
- Includes notification for when no unread emails exist (useful for running command to turn off message indicator LEDs, etc.)
- "Check email now" menu option to force email check upon command
- Ability to manually pause and resume email checking
- Threads context menu that shows unread messages on right-click

How to install:
- Download the latest version
- Uninstall any previous version (see instructions below)
- Run the following command in the directory where the file was placed (updated to reflect the actual filename):

- The widget should now be listed in your "Add Widgets" screen

Note: If you get missing script-engine errors when loading the widget you need to install the plasma python script-engine (in openSUSE this requires the "python-kdebase4" and "python-devel" packages, in Fedora this requires the "kdebase-workspace-python-applet" package, in Kubuntu this requires the "plasma-scriptengine-python" package)

How to uninstall:
- Run the following command at the command line:

I've tried the last version on my Arch X64 and at reboot gmail-plasmoid is not able to store passwords...
Can somebody help my?

You are not the only one who is having this issue, but I have been unable to reproduce the issue (I am also running on a fully updated Arch install, along with openSUSE 11.4 and Kubuntu 11.04). I am not sure why kwallet does not seem to work correctly for some people. I'm not sure if it will help, but try to delete the configuration file for the plasmoid completely, or remove and then add back the plasmoid to your panel or system tray. Perhaps with a fresh configuration it will work. I will also try to dig into this further and try to find a solution to the issue.

at last, previous version didn't. Thanks for fixing it.

One suggestion: ability to edit settings for saved accounts would be useful.. Currently if I want to change anything I have to delete account and re-create it..

I'm glad it is working for you. For the accounts, you should be able to double-click an account to modify it. If that does not work let me know.

opensuse 11.4 and KDE 4.6.5 gmail -plasmoid-0.7.17 after reboot my desktop the application does not keep the password. I have to re-enter the password.

Please try out the new 0.7.18 version of the plasmoid and see if it fixes your issue. If you continue to have an issue please try deleting your accounts and adding them back, or deleting the entire configuration for the plasmoid. Hopefully this new version will work better for you.

I have tested the plasmoid with a fresh installation of openSUSE 11.4 and again after upgrading to KDE 4.6.5 and have been unable to reproduce your problem. However, I am in the middle of making further changes to the plasmoid that may help out with your issue. Please stay tuned for a new version in the next few days.

hey, KDE 4.7rc1 is available and i recogniced that your plasmoid does not work anymore. The python script engin is missing.

Any chance for a fix?

That sounds like a problem with your KDE installation. You will need to figure out the applicable package for your distribution that contains the python engine for plasmoids. If you do figure it out, please post back here how you solved the issue in case others encounter the same issue.

Hey, you are right, i had the correct package installed but it was bugged. The last update to that package (testing/kdebindings-python on archlinux) fixed it.

Just recently I updated KDE on my Kubuntu desktop and now when the gmail applet tries to check my mail I get the following message that pops up:

You are about to log in to the site "mail.google.com" with the username "my username", but the website does not require authentication. This may be an attempt to trick you.
Is "mail.google.com" the site you want to visit?"

Is there any way to prevent this from popping up?

That is an interesting issue that I have not seen before. The message must be coming from the underlying KDE classes as I use them to fetch the feed. I am hoping to have some time next week to fix some other bugs that I have wanted to fix for a while, and I will see if I can replicate this issue as well. Sorry for the delay, and hopefully I can figure out what is causing the problem.

I have the same problem. every time it tries to fetch the feed it says:
"You are about to log in to the site "mail.google.com" with the username "dirk.breuel", but the website does not require authentication. This may be an attempt to trick you.
Is "mail.google.com" the site you want to visit?"

so the plasmoid isnt working anymore..

To help narrow down the issue, is everyone who is experiencing this issue using Kubuntu? In addition, please let me know the exact version of KDE that you have installed that appears to cause the issue. In fact, if someone wants to start an "issue" on the Google Code page for the plasmoid (the home page link above will take you there) that may be a better forum for solving this issue. Thanks.

Same message here and no notification about unread e-mails. I'm on kubuntu oneiric ocelot (dev) with kde 4.6.3 and QT 4.7.3. Even though this is an unstable kubuntu release, KDE with all apps, plasmoids etc. work flawlessly. It's just your plasmoid. Hoping you'll come up with some solution soon as I can't wait to start using it!
