Likely the only way to get some decent icons neutral with respect to background color is to do them from scratch. Actually I would just be happy if someone took icons from other places and packaged them into a single Facebook theme consisting of only Facebook emoticons and their commands.
I understand, however, making them from scratch means they would be no longer the original Facebook emoticon set.
I'll look for an alternative (free) emoticon set and make it compatible with Facebook codes. Stay tuned!
I think that's probably a good thing (i.e. that they won't be the originals) since the originals are not all that pretty, especially compared with e.g. the oxygen emoticon set.
I look forward to the alternative emoticon set!
Yes, I know that. As you know, Facebook chat is white, that's why its emoticons are better on a white background. I added some transparency in order to remove the white border, in this release. The only thing I can do is to re-add the white border and release another package for dark themes. What do you think about it?

These look awful when using a dark background for the chat window. Actually they don't look half-decent on anything but a white background.
