USplash Theme Fingerprint
Source (link to git-repo or to original if based on someone elses unmodified work):
Sorry. This splash screen is based on usplash, which is deprecated. It won't work on Ubuntu 10.04 or newer.
This is another version of the usplash theme fingerprint, working with the resolution of 1024 * 768.
Why another Version?
All the others did not work on my machine, so I customized the code and the pictures a bit and now it works.
How to install?
Just install the .deb package, install via ppa or compile the source code yourself
This Package is available in my ppa:
https://launchpad.net/~phylu/+archive/usplash-theme-fingerprint
Silent or Verbose?
To use the blue text box (screenshot 2) for some booting messages just delete the "quiet" on the boot entry in you menu.lst.
I found a Bug! What now?
Please leave a comment, with a description of the bug. Also post the boot-entry of your menu.lst, which linux distribution you use, and what version. The version of the fingerprint theme is also important.

Hi there, I'm still a baby with Ubuntu. I'm running 13.04 with gnome 3.8.3. I ran the ppa in terminal and everything went perfect. What do I do next? I'm lost. Help would be great. Thank you. This looks like a great splash screen.
Sorry to disappoint you. This splash screen is based on usplash which was replaced in Ubuntu several versions back with plymouth. Therefore it will not work on current versions. I don't think that I will release a Plymouth version, though.
hope a plymouth version can come out to make this complete with the grub and kdm/gdm login.
would love if there was one for plymouth, too!!
does it work in Ubuntu 10.04 ?
Lucid is using Plymouth to draw splash screens while booting, the fingerprint theme is still based on USplash. Therefore it should not be working. I hope to have enough time soon, to work on a Plymouth version. But I cannot promise anything. Help would be highly appreciated.
oh ~~ I feel sad :-( thanks a lot for what you are/were doing !
Stay tuned. I will try my best to work on something soon.
really cool !!!
Thanks for updating this project, it's been a favorite of mine since I saw it a couple of years ago. I've never been able to get it working until now though. Can't seem to get the text to go into the box. Any ideas please? If I run this command... sudo usplash -c in terminal I get this error: usplash: can't get console font: Invalid argument ioctl(TIOCSCTTY): Operation not permitted I'm currently running Ubuntu 9.10 with grub2, so no editing of the menu.lst (as far as I know anyway)
I got the no text in the text box mystery figured out now. You need to sudo gedit /etc/default/grub and change this line GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash" to this GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="" Then run sudo update-grub. Reboot. Fixed it for me.
I have not optimized this splash screen for grub 2, that might be the reason why it is not working propperly on Ubuntu 9.10. But if you find the right parameters for grub you should put them into /etc/default/grub to get the silent mode working. The next new version is planned to be based on plymouth.
My /boot/grub/menu.lst is empty. So how do I get the blue box to work?
I like this but two things: The blue text box is really blue for me (rather than the turquoise in your screenshot), which looks ugly with everything else. I commented out "quiet" from menu.lst to at least see if it'll hide the blue box, but the text never showed up. Second thing is I really liked the "Most powerful Operating System..." but I see you took it out. :( I'm using Jaunty. Other than that, good stuff!

Hi, i download it and follow the instruction, but it doesn't work. When i do: "sudo usplash -c" it doesn't work, and tell: "usplash: can't get console font: Invalid argument usplash: Setting mode 1152x864 failed usplash: Using mode 1024x768 usplash: No usable theme found for 1024x768 screen init failed " Any idea? P.S.: Sorry for my bad english :(
Try to set your resolution for usplash to 1024*768.
I do it. I add "vga=971" into the menu.lst file, but it doesnt't work =(
Does the file /etc/usplash.conf cointain the following data? xres=1024 yres=768
No, it contains 1440x900 Oh, if it work... you're great! :D Now I try, then I ask you the result. Thanks!
Ok, it's work!! Thanks!!
Normally this value should be set automatically. strange...
It seem like there is a problem in hardy, every time it boot or restarts the PC, there is a misplaced black box on the windows where is supposed the verbose appears. I tried another version from here (gnome-looks) and so far is the one that works the best, btw is Fingerprint 0.2 ALPHA 1, with this one only the black box on the boot is misplaced the one on restart (or shutdown) it seems OK
