Air (Gnome Shell 3.6 compatible)
Source (link to git-repo or to original if based on someone elses unmodified work):
It was based on the code from Adwaita-White (http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Adwaita-White?content=142377), which was really a great base to build on ! Thanks Oberon27.
If you are still using Gnome-Shell 3.4, I think you should rather use Air 3.4.
Please help get this bug resolved, so that we can have the theme back to the way it was intended : https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=666370 !
3.6 :
Changed to support the new notification bar style.
Improved the look of notifications.
3.4 :
Added checkbox support.
Fixed grid size in Apps overview bug introduced by Gnome-Shell 3.4
Improved Submenus
Added a small dim menu when a Shell "window" (the Alt+F2 box, or some "type password" stuff) has focus
Improved notification bar.
2.1 : Fixed a bug which made image included in notification to be stretched.
2.0 : Fixed most of the stuff broken by Gnome-Shell update. Themed new stuff, including the new on-screen keyboard.
COULDN'T PREVENT THAT STUPID SHELL NOT TO DARKEN THE WALLPAPER IN OVERVIEW MODE ANYWAY ! And that's really pissing me off.
1.0 : Initial release

hello, I' using your theme in Gnome 3.8 now. The look of this theme is just great, but depending on the background it is sometimes too transparent to read the dialogues from shell. I have this problem on both my machines with Gnome 8the other one is 3.6), one has a lighter and the other a dark wallpaper. Maybe you could make just the fonts completely opaque, or is there a way to adjust the overall level of transparency?
Hi. Thanks for the feedback, but with Gnome 3.8 still breaking a lot of things, I gave up on this theme and I'm using the default theme again. I might try to recreate it from scratch, by basing it one the new default theme, but I just can't find the motivation right now. If you like the theme too much and want to fix it yourself, look into the gnome-shell.css file, find all the color attributes, and each time there is a rgba() value, change the last argument to 1 to make all the text completely opaque. If you are willing to take over the theme, I'll gladly make this page point to your version of it ! Good luck.
Great work. BTW link to "Air with classic icons" is broken :(
Thanks, should be fixed now.
If I overwrite the ../gnome-shell/theme folder directly, gnome crashes in the login screen. I get the "something went wrong" message. This didn't happen when I did the same thing with other themes. Any thought why this is happening? Btw it runs great when used with gnome-tweak-tool, it's just this problem.
Well, I know that Gnome-Shell is used in GDM now, and that I didn't provide a gdm.css file needed for that. Since Gnome-Shell powered GDM bugs enormously on my laptop, I can't and I won't make a gdm.css complying to my theme's style, so I guess that leaves you with three options : - You can just make sure you keep the gdm.css file from the default theme. Tell me if it work, I may add it to the download. - You can stick to using gnome-tweak-tool. - And the very best solution of all, you can write a gdm.css in the same style as the rest of the theme, and I'll sure include it !
Can you suggest and GTK and Window themes that go well with this shell theme? What do you use with it? Sorry if this is a silly question, I'm very new to Linux. (first day!) :)
Well, that's completely a matter of taste, so there is no right and wrong answer, it really is up to you. I previously used a modified version of this window theme that I failed to upgrade : http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Homoerectus?content=119856 but now, I switched back the the default window and GTK theme. But really, the best choice for YOUR desktop is YOUR choice. So just give the GTK and Metacity theme section of this website a look, and decide for yourself ;).
good. Can you share the wall and icons please? Thank you!
Well, of course ! The icon theme is mine, based on Mattahan's icons, see http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=81153. The wallpapper is also by Mattahan, see http://mattahan.deviantart.com/art/Bring-the-Pain-39781904
Nicely done. =] /izo\
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you! I have been looking everywhere for a theme just like this. I love how well it goes with my backround. See: http://yfrog.com/hsr5ksp http://yfrog.com/gyzd7pp http://yfrog.com/kh7jwp Keep up the good work!
I appreciate your work. It looks great :) But it's a big pity that gnome-shell can't use the icon theme :(
I love this gnome-shell theme and I'm using it, but I only don't like the stony icons it uses...please could you make a modified theme that uses the same theme used by the system...is it possibly?
Sadly, it isn't. Blame that on the Gnome-Shell developers that decided “ Screw the users GTK theme and icon theme, let's not use this anywhere on Gnome-Shell”. But I can still provide a version with classic icons, and you can very easily replace my icons with yours. Check my new version with classic icons.
I am using Fedora, I really appreciate your help.
You're welcome. Actually, the problem was totally on my side. It should work now.
I cannot open the compressed file
That's quite a problem indeed. I used .xz instead of .gz because I thought it would compress more. The official Gnome ftp switched to .xz too, so I thought it wouldn't be too much of a problem for people to open it. Which distribution are you using ? I'm surprised that PackageKit was unable to find you the right packet.
I meant package, not packet, of course…
Same problem here. The archive manager gives the following output: xz: (stdin): Unexpected end of input tar: Unexpected EOF in archive tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now And I don't think it's the format since I can open other tar.xz archives without problems.
Yes, you're right. I don't know why the archive was corrupted. However, now, it should work. Thanks for the feedback.
