Back n Black GTK "Overhauled" v1.5
Source (link to git-repo or to original if based on someone elses unmodified work):
I learned that dark themes look cool but are a pain in the ...to tweak LOL!!
Update 3/12/2012: Thanks to nowerries for telling me how to fix Ubuntu Software Center. I'm trying to figure out a way to apply this fix to my dark themes but until then use this fix.
**********Bugs***********
Only bug I have noticed so far is fonts unreadable in Ubunut Software Center the fix for this is to in terminal type...
sudo gedit /usr/share/software-center/ui/gtk3/css/softwarecenter.css
.... and change the color value of @define-color super-light-aubergine to #000000.
Update 2/25/2012: Just cleaned some code up
Update 2/24/2012: Fixed Unity panel and GTK-2 the combobox, selected text, tabs and a few other settings
Major Update 2/20/2012: Complete overhaul I used my Black Widow GTK theme but changed all the red to white/Grey. I think this one blows the old one away as I have a better understanding of GTK themes now.
This is based originally off of Adwaita but completely re-done. Once again I used the window borders from ANewStartBlood by *alecive http://fav.me/d4j2r5l Thanks to him for making awesome borders . If you want to keep the original one rename it and extract this one.
This one uses the same name SO IT WILL OVERWRITE THE OLD ONE.....Let me know what you think in the comments below.
Oh yeah the gnome shell theme is something I did and am releasing it now so check it out I called it Clear-GS It's my GS Back-n-Black with the panel transparent
Updated 2/07/2012:Unity panel now displays the right colors. Fixed a few highlighting here and there. Still trying to figure out firefox. If anyone has an idea let me know.
Updated 1/21/2010: I changed the progress bar to have more of a radius. Fixed the selected check boxes to have a grey border (so you can see where to put the check in them).
1/21/2012: GTK-2 Requires gtk2-engines-murrine 0.98 or higher thx to reference2myself for figuring that out ;-)
1/19/2012: Fixed the evolution not displaying html emails correctly. Checkout my DA site to see better screenshot and for more updates.

Hey, love the overhaul. Only one thing I noticed that bothers me slightly. Some text box's are not visible unless you're clicked on them. They're all black and blend in seamlessly with the black around them. Unless you know where they're at you wouldn't even know they're there. I think it's just the gtk2 portion of the theme. In synaptic package manager for example, the "quick search" box is invisible if you highlight anything else in the app. Seems to not be an issue with gtk3 apps. And it's not a problem with all gtk2 apps, if they're laid out in a certain way u can still see where the box is.
Thanks man, hmm....I run Arch so I don't use anything like synaptic. I know someone said the ubuntu software center didn't look right but I don't know how to change that. I have ubuntu installed on another pc of mine I'll see if i can figure out what's going on with it. You say that you think it's only happening in gtk-2 apps right? That helps narrow it down. I'll post updates here and on my devaintart site when I have a fix, thanks for using it ;-)
no biggie, not gonna stop me from using the theme, best gtk3 theme out there imo.
How did you make all icons to display down wards.. i am on ubuntu 11.10 i can also do like that ah... i liked your theme style very much
I don't understand what you mean by displaying my icons downwards? Unless you mean the icons at the bottom of my screen? That is cairo-dock. And thank you very much I appreciate it ;-)
ya that only thnx..
awesome theme
Thanks you! ;-))
By far the best gtk3 theme I've seen. I know there's a lot of fans of the black themes that have been looking for this. Thanks for paving the way and for all the help. Much appreciated.
Thank you so much!! that means a lot I spent a lot of time on this and am glad people are liking it ;)
Hey, might have found something u can tweak. I just enabled the showing of icons on the desktop, and they all have black text under them rather than the white that goes with the rest of your theme. Hard to see on my dark background. Maybe something u can fix?
I'm taking a look at it now my friend thanks for the heads up ;-)
Hey there, I enabled icons on my desktop and it shows with white text. Did try logging out after you enabled desktop icons?
hmm, just tried loggin in and out, that didn't work, rebooted and that didn't work either, hmm, forget it if it works for u, probably another old package i have lol. Was just playing with mint 12 in the virtual machine, with all the shell extensions they have it is pretty dope, plus they have an alternative shell, plus a gnome 2 fork, it's all coming to the debian edition soon so I'll just deal till then.
might change my mind if i can get your theme working though, lol, maybe it depends on a certain theme engine for the gtk2 stuff? Hmm...murrine is what it relies on I believe..Yeah if you figure it out let me know and I will do the same ;-)
using Linux Mint Debian Edition, with Sid for my main repo, i don't know if i can get used to not using compiz and having such a lack of features and control, compiz is the main reason i switched to linux lol Hmm...I didn't realize debian was using gnome 3 yet? That is weird, one other person was having this issue but I haven't heard back from them. Sorry i'm asking so many ? just want to figure this out for ya. so you have gnome-tweak-tool installed and you can choose your themes from there right? Yeah about compiz i remember when it first came out it blew my mind i used it for years and even when gnome 3 came out I was running cairo-dock as a desktop session just so I could use compiz still but I tell you what gnome 3 has come a long ways. the only thing i really miss is the wobbly window effect. Sorry i had to answer you like this cause i didn't have the reply button on your message.
ya, really missing the wobbly windows, and window previews, and windows bursting to flames, and desktop cube, and transparent menu's, etc, lol. gnome 3 does look pretty slick, i'm gonna give it some time to learn it and get used to it but I dunno. Thanks for trying to help, I'll keep messing with it, I'll let u know if I find a solution.
really leaning towards theme engine for the gtk2 part, which one does this depend on?
haha!!! figured it out, had to upgrade the gtk2-engines-murrine to 0.98, only had version 0.90 in the repo, works fine now
Sweet!!!! glad to hear so everything looks uniform correct??
yes, everything looks ok now, pretty slick my friend
Hi, I think this theme, and all the other black ones, awesome, but I really want to know what "Dock" you're using. Thanx
Thank you, I'm using cairo-dock. The reason is I like the option that come with it and I can use a different icon theme than the system icons ;-)
Hey, love this theme, but for some reason it only theme's my gtk3 apps. All of my gtk2 stuff is the default grey theme. Does anyone know why this is so, this isn't the only gtk3 theme i have that does this, some of them i have theme everything, and some only do the gtk3 apps. Any help would be appreciated.
Hmm...Where do you have the themes installed? Maybe it's a rights issue. Are the ones that are working in your home .themes folder?
