Description:
This is my first background created with The GIMP. I have been using photoshop for several years, and I had heard great things about the gimp, so I decided to give it a try. Just played around with some filters and got this. Please let me know what needs improving, I appreciate criticism.

Will work well (and may look better) on higher resolutions.

Ten minutes later: Found a spelling mistake, corrected that and fixed shading
