Most of this was done using the gimp. It's a nice change from blue. You could probably make it blue using the gimp. I've made myself a lime green wallpaper based on this orange one with the 'image | colors | desaturate' followed by 'image | colors | color balance'. To do horizontal lines, you could use a repeating gradient as a bump map or try 'filters | distorts | video'.

I'm not a fan of orange, but this is gorgeous. Could you please tell me how exactly you made the rows on the left hand side? Is this all Gimp-work?
