I'm trying to install another theme but after installing get a message saying: "This theme will not look as intended because the required GTK+ theme engine 'ubuntulooks' is not installed." How to I correct that? I think this is the theme package referred to but I cannot figure out where to unpack these to or where to install to. I tried: /usr/share/themes/ and also: home/username/.themes/ I see no change in the Theme tab in the Appearance Preference window and still get the error. Is this the right package? How do I use it? (I feel pretty comfortable in Ubuntu, until I try to make it look more like I want. Then I feel like I just stepped into a Vegas Casino. Is there a large repository of themes I can install then just pick one, instead of the half-dozen ubuntu comes with?)
Hi, just download this package: http://gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=43255 Unzip the file and follow the instructions from "Readme.txt" Regards
I noticed after using Clearlooks_Cairo-Hedgehog that the khaki version has a lighter menuitem. Ok, if this was on purpose, I just noticed it didn't match the base selected and titlebar and thought I'd mention it. Thx for the themes!
How did you get the gnome panel looks like that? The pager also looks great.
Get the source for Ubuntulooks here --> http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/u/ubuntulooks/ubuntulooks_0.9.9.orig.tar.gz
So will this break all of the clearlooks-cairo themes I have? Because I tried using the Ubuntulooks themes, and all they do is give me a standard GTK engine that lags horribly. Is there any specific reason that the enhancements in this "ubuntulooks" haven't been contributed to the clearlooks-cairo code, rathen than forking?
This shouldn't break Clearlooks-Cairo, you just need both engines installed for both types of themes to work. Try getting the gtk-engines module from gnomecvs.
Again, did you install the Ubuntulooks gtk-engine? You need it to use Ubuntulooks themes. Most of these themes I have port from Clearlooks-cairo, and there isn't a lot of difference between the two. If you just want Clearlooks-cairo themes you can go here: http://kwh.kernow-gb.com/%7Ebvc/theme/gtk/clearlooks/cairo/

I don't use Ubuntu, I prefer Fedora Core 5 *gasp and awe and shock!* So I don't have this "ubuntulooks". I do have soomething similar called "clearlooks with cairo", and I was wondering if these themes are all compatable with my clearlooks with cairo, or if you guys are just not letting the non-Ubuntu users use nice themes. Proper thanks to be given when answered! ;)
Ubuntu looks is Clearlooks-Cairo with a few modifications but you can [li]http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/u/ubuntulooks/ubuntulooks_0.9.9.orig.tar.gz]get the source tar here[/li]! You may need install some gnome2 development packages, but this does work on almost all distros with GTK+ 2.8 and above.

Do you know how to fix the graphite theme? I posted on Phrodo's site and he said he was going to post it; however, he has not yet-not sure what happened. There is something undefined and it gives xsession errors. thanks! swj
hi, im looking for the wallpaper on the preview... where i can find it????
It's on DeviantART but I can't find it ATM, it's called Autumn_1600_left.jpg and it is part of a multi-monitor set.
thanks you! i adore the gperfection one !!! im so happy
To install on Dapper (or any distro with Ubuntulooks) open a terminal and type: sudo cp -rf /home/whoever/usr/ / or if you are in the directory with the themes: sudo cp -rf /home/whatever/where_ever_the_themes_are/* /usr/share/themes Basically you should put them in your '/usr/share/themes/' directory so they can be used system wide.
where did you get the background?
nice pack! could you make a gperfection2 coloured version ? instructions for installing the ubuntulooks theme on ubuntu breezy (and probably toher distros) are here http://phrodo00.byethost11.com/blog/index.php/2006/03/12/howto-ubuntulooks-in-breezy/
Hi, im new here can you help me to install that on Ubuntu?
You have some possible ways to do this:- Open the Theme-Manager (should be located unter „System“→„Settings“), click on „Install Theme“ and then just paste the URL of the *.tar.gz-File here
- Almost the same: download this file and drag and drop it over the Theme-Manager window
- A less-GUI way: download the file and unpack it into ~/.themes
Enjoy!
