Description:
GTK2 theme based on VistaBut theme from roberTO21 (http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php?content=32227).
All the thanks go to roberTO21

The best metacity themes that match this gtk theme are LiNsta Black Flat, LiNsta Black Plastic, LiNsta Black Plastic & Alu, and LiNsta Silver Plastic.

I changed small things in its theme :
-the theme is clearer;
-some pixmaps were improved;
-I changed the top panel style. Now, you can find 2 themes : black and gray. I'm working on a Royal Blue one.
-I changed the menubar style. Now you can find more than 20 themes. You can make yours :-) Don't hesitate to share them !
-I changed the toolbar style. There are other styles. Choose yours.

How to customize ?
-All the styles are defined in 4 files : menubar-custom.rc, toolbar-custom.rc, panel_custom.rc, and menu-custom.rc. Have a look to them.
-To change the top panel theme : comment and/or uncomment the lines 18, 19 in the gtkrc file. panel_silver.rc and panel_black-plastic.rc contain the suitable styles to modify to obtain the desired panel. To have the best result, go to the panel properties, in the background tab, and select the right background (go to the panel folder in the GTK2 theme folder).
-To change the menubars, go at the end of the gtkrc file. Change the lines 1822, 1823, 1824 with one of the styles defined in the menubar-custom.rc file. You can define one style for particular windows (see lines 1825, 1826, and 1827), but don't forget that the more there are definitions like these, the more the GUI is slow !
-To change toolbars, change the lines 1815 to 1820 with one of the styles defined in the toolbar-custom.rc file.
-For the meuns style, all styles are defined in the menu-custom.rc file. The silver menu is ok.

But I would like to define a black menu, and the menuitem font color is still black, and I would like this to be white. I tested lots of things but the menuitems are always black. Can you help me ?

I also need your help to define a particular menu style for the panel (black menus), and another for all other windows and apps (silver menus). How can I do this ?

hello together, your problem can be s olved by installing this package here on this download. Download it and install it. This package is the needed gtk-theme for LinSta. I tested it a minute ago and it works as it should. Greetings Karmicbastler

I'm sure this would sound familiar to some people, but unfortunately this keeps showing up: "This theme will not look as intended because the required GTK+ theme engine is not installed." Ever since I tried to download this and a few other themes, the same thing keeps popping up! I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to Linux, but this is really frustrating! I tried to install another GTK theme manager thing, but there's so many of them - while doesn't help not knowing a thing - but I can't figure that or the problem out! Please help!!

i have a couple of questions: 1. how did you get that panel on the right ? 2. how can i get my ubuntu to look like that when i browse my files. 3.(not a question) THIS LOOKS AWESOME.

Nice theme.

This is the window when i take: System/turn off http://pici.se/pictures/PzYojRbYJ.jpg - probably ubuntu users dont see this bug. Im using foresight with Gnome. Ubuntu got custom dialog, Foresight is using the original dialog from Gnome when choosing controller "Linsta-GTK2" for setting up a custom "theme" it gets like that. few others borrowed your theme and they got the same bugs too. Even Moomex theme got the same bug. Only the users that arent in ubuntu and making the themes havent this bug.

I really like your theme! Also I love that xmms (or audacious) skin, where can I get it???

hao

but how did you make the color of menu text be white? Mine is just black which is unclear with a blue background.

illmortal

Would you be able to make the same theme with the panel bar preference being 36? I'd like to have bigger icons on my panel, but can't because the bar is set at 24. Looks funny at 36... looks like 2 bars on top of each other.

BiscuitHead

I am making a mash up of Vista stuff and can I use this?

martinnii

i dont know why,, but when i try to install the theme it sais that the format of the file is incorrect (my ubuntu is in spanish, so i'm trying to translate). if someone can help me... pleasee :'(

This is a very good theme. I want it to be able to read the font in openoffice though, so i tried using a lighter-coloured menubar theme (like "menubar-clear") but the font for the "menubar" in the top panel (for Applications, Places, System) stays white and then I can't read that:( ... is there a way to get rid of the different menubar in the panel? Or can i change the font up there black otherwise? in most other themes, the panel is all the same colour, so it must be possible. I just want to be able to have good contrast in font/background in Openoffice without screwing up anything else. If you have any ideas, please tell me. Thanks.

Any chance of you sharing the adesklets that you created for this? They look great. Was it a mod of the SystemMonitor desklet?

Hello I love the way your theme looks. Its just that I cannot customize anything. I tried going into gtkrc, editing the lines to menubar-green. Once I did this, I re-archived the whole Linsta folder, and dragged and dropped in the themes folder. Is this the right procedure to follow? Thank you for any help.

jporter91

in firefox and thunderbird and openoffice the menubar font is black on dark blue (it's supposed to be white) and its almost imporssible to read. The theme Ellegance has this same problem. It has a UseChrome.css file that can change the menubar font colour in firefox and thunderbird from black to white. It still doesn't have a fix for openoffice though.

I just found LiNsta 2, after found the metacity files and chose the glass icons. Pretty funny.Anyway I love your work, and the XMMS skin. I was wondering what the mediaplayer was in the screenshot you used. Also what is the systym monitor program you have in the screenshot? One last question how did you get your top and bottom toolbars to look like that? Thanks!

adamhamel

I installed this against my fc6 and everything looks good except the window panel. It is not black. It does not seem to change. The launch bar and bottom bar are both the glossy black, but windows do not have the new close/minimize icons, and there is not glossy black background. I have gtk 2.1.x Any ideas?

noondesertsky

Look under Metacity (on the left toolbar of this site) for LiNsta. Download and extract them to the theme directory. They should show up in the Window Border Tab of Theme details.

vladc

Are there an SVG version of the buttons? Thanks!

idioteque

..how can I change the font colour? It is somewhat grey, I would like black.
