aqua scrollbars
Source (link to git-repo or to original if based on someone elses unmodified work):
Description:
I was browsing around for a good Aqua look-alike theme and I kept wondering why is that almost every aqua element is copied but not the scrollbars. This is really strange.
The Aqua scrollbars have strange look really, when you move it it looks like the stipped image is not moving. It looks interesting.
Now, almost every theme I found online that tries to copy aqua use static images and when they stretch you get an ugly looking scrolls. I still don't understand why is that, but I decided to post my scrollbars. They behave exactly like aqua, i think this finished the aqua-like look of a GTK theme. Feel free to use it at your themes.
Attention: I am really lazy and I am not using aqua theme so I had not finishes the pixmaps for the horizontal arrows, feel free to finish this
Limitations: The scrollbars in Epiphany/Liferea/Anything that uses mozemebed does not follow the GTKrc file and you cannot place the steppers, also the effect of scrolling is not working well, this is under investigation, my guess is they use something custom, not the standart scrollbars.
Usage: the archive is NOT a complete theme, just a folder with the pixmaps and the rc file, you should include it in your gtkrc with "include". There is a video online also demoing the functionality (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lF4yq0v9ftg )
Any help / advice on the firefox behavior will be appreciated. Last changelog:

I update this, as I was pointed by *nameless* that the Aqua scrollbar uses stronger highlights. To use the new image just download it and replace the zero.png file in the scrolls directory of your theme. Hope now everybody is satisfied. The new highlight can be seen in the third screen shot.
Just a demo of the GTK capabilities on
imitating AQUA

Hi, First of all I'd like to say that your scrollbars are exactly what I was looking for. Thanks a lot for that. I noticed that the horizontal arrows have different shape than vertical. Can you tell me why? Or can you replace them with the same shape of arrows as vertical? Regards,
I am sorry, this is discontinued, I am not using anything like Aqua these days, we now have much better engine (see dev branch of nodoka - modern style) it is way better and not so early 00's. Feel free to create your pngs and use them in the theme of your choice. The rc is provided as 'know-how' to make the stripes 'swim' under the scrolling like it is working in osx and not a complete implementation of the idea, to be honst currently I am using gtk1 default look alike of the scroll bar (can be seen in the latest metacity theme posted here)
Hi, I'd made a GTK style including your work on scrollbars, with some graphics made by me (not submitted yet, using the Aurora Engine); i just wondering if exist some way or some how to colorize the scrollbar slider when changing color from gnome-appearance-properties?
Take a look here, please: http://www.gnome-look.org/content/show.php/Aurora+Steel?content=77377 and just say yours ;)
hi, i have never done a gtkrc file before... could anyone plz send me the gtkrc for this theme? thx.
where can i download the scrollbars? when i click on "download", firefox opens a new tab with a little blue picture at the top left.(is this the update?) but where can i get the scrollbars(pixmap, rc file...)
The link has been updated, sorry for that. The work on this project is discontinues due to the limitations in mozembed. It is a software limitation that cannot be overcome with theming, sorry. Besides I think Aurora has a good enough look for scrolbar handles:) See Allusion for demo.
excellent work. btw: the FSF confirms that the artistic license and the GPL is compatible. http://www.fsf.org/licensing/licenses/ so its okay to use this with GPL themes.
Because every single peace on the provided elements is made by me and/or by another author without copying anything, just imitating, it is okay to publish it under GPL, but I prefer artistic (I have my reasons)
Thank you for teaching me it! The new image looks very cool. If it's "png", I'm gladder... I have a problem of progressbars. Your scrollbars seem to solution for it. However, I can't make good images. I'm disappointed at my skill... Your works and comments are interesting. I look forward to your new work.
Sorry I don't understand the part with the progress bar. You can use the overlay images just like in the scrollbars but I suggest you to use the murine engine with the proper highlight/contrast/color settings instead as it is animated:) Good luck
I wrestled with this problem today. And I think that I solved it. Thank you very much.
I used your amazing scrollbars and made a new gtk theme. I do not understand licenses well, but is it right to distribute my theme under GPL?
Please forgive my strange English. I depend on yahoo translation.
This is very cool, that why I included it in the latest version of my Leopard theme. http://gnomestyle.blogspot.com/2007/06/leopard-macmenubar-version.html Unfortunatly the button alignment doesn't work...?
Greetings from Bulgaria for the good work! Pozdravi ot Bulgaria za dobrata rabota! :)
I said that before, I am saying it now again: this is not to be installed directly, the archive contains only a few files that a themer can use in its theme. This is _NOT_ a complete theme and cannot be installed. Step by step tutorial cannot be provided here, but basically, you replace the rule for drawing your scrollbars with the one provided in this archive and you make sure to include the rc file in the gtkrc you use. Sorry for this, I don't have the time for a complete release and minor fixes. If someone is interested in mentainning this I can provide a working solution that needs tweaks. Leave a message for this.
I'm new to Gnome. I downloaded this to my desktop, but am unsuccessful in installing it. Could you give some step-by-step instructions, please? Thanks!
These are beautiful.. Thanks so much for making these!
