Add musicvideos to Amarok
Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements
Source (link to git-repo or to original if based on someone elses unmodified work): Add the source-code for this project on opencode.net
Some month ago i was at home by a friend who had several musicvideos on the screen.
I wondered how he manages all this musicvideos and had the idea that it would be nice to have videointegration into Amarok especially for musicvideos also because I like listening to music and watching the videos.
My idea is:
You have a song (MP3 or any other format wich is not in a format for videos) in your collection (the song has taggs and Labels an so on) and maybe you found the musicvideo for this song on the Internet and downloaded it to your Harddisk.
Wouldn't it be nice just to say: "hey Amarok, I got the musicvideo for this song, here it is."
Just add the video as "additional Media" to the song, so that next time you play this song you can listen to the MP3 and watch the Video you had downloaded and added.
I know that the MP3 now isn't synchronised with the video, but my idea was to have something like the virtualisation-modul of Amarok just with the musicvideo of the song respectively a easy way to manage music with videos. (A function that switches between the sound of the MP3 and the one that comes with the video might also conceivable to get the sound synchronised)
Maybe Youtube integration and other stuff is also possible.
I know it is a little bit crazy but I would be happy to see something like this in the futur.
Another way to get musicvideos into Amarok isn't that difficult I think:
Amarok can play the sound of OGM's (Xine backend?), add taggs and labels to the OGM like to an MP3 (In my case it was a film).
But the Video isnt shown.
Wouldn't it be possible to show the video like in the mockup and get musicvideointegration for Amarok this way?
I hope someone understood what i ment (in spite of my english).
Maybe there is someone who'd like to add this function to Amarok (as modul oder plugin or whatever it's called by Amarok)

I don´t want Amarok to become something like WMP too.
I mentioned the idea to create this feature as something like an addon so that you can choose if you want support for videos or not.
Maybe it would be possible to watch each video in Amarok with this feature (because of the Xine backend or other backends the feature would use) but the focus should be set on musicvideos and i don´t think that one would get the idea to watch a movie with Amarok just because he could...

for example, lets say i have an flv of 'take on me', but i don't have the separate mp3, if it didn't show the video by default, but only played the audio, till the screensaver started, how bout that, hmm?

However we (the Amarok team) would really appreciate a mockup for Amarok 2 (which looks quite different) for this.

The problem is, that I can´t install a version of Amarok2 now but wanted to pubish the idea already ;)
When I have enough time on the weekend I´ll compile Amarok2 from SVN and try to make a mockup with the new Amarok.
