Description:

Hi friends, Our company is evaluating KDE/Linux combo for our desktop replacement. We need PIM app like outlook and are very happy with groupware progress. We could move on to kde right now but we decided to hold on a bit. We were checking PIM and is looking very good. While seeing screenshot of KDE Adress book (3.2 CVS) we were so impresed we couldn't help our self but to check all of PIM programs. We were trying to make look Korganizer a bit nicer but thru settings is quite hard + doing it for 100 desktops is a bit of pain. So we made a suggestion just to see if anyone is interesed in it, and we would like some advice how to do it. Thanks for your time & tell us what you think.
Cheers, Gasper

I changed forward button, I like it more :), However check this out: http://pim.kde.org/img/screenshots/CVS-KAddressBook/kaddressbook1-cvs.png
Now I guess you see what I'm talking about and why we need a chage, Korganizer would fit better with the rest of PIM progs.

update: Third screenshot is a muckup by All loved Eugenia, you can find original screenshot here: http://korganizer.kde.org/images/screenshots/event.png
Quoting Eugenia:
"I am for simplicity, so I will have to ask: is there a need for 8 menu
items? It sounds too much for an organizer.. Also, how often people use
printing with the app to justify two printing icons? And what the "save"
icon does exactly? I thought that everything is saved automatically when
they are edited, or at least, they should be."

I have an idea taht I think would be nice for this great piece of software.
1. the white background could be an image and all of the events or todos would be semi transparent, think that would look very nice

2. now if you double click an event it shows the editing thing but what if it would bring up something similar to planner, like a nice thingy to edit everything there is to edit about a project...
Actually I kinda miss that, it would be useful to have an project and a day planner in one application

Oh and I got another idea,

would it be possible to somehow incorporate the plan for today into the wallpaper?

i could complain so so so much about the big sized Dialogs in KDE just everywhere, and already since a long time, and i know, there are other people, who would just laugh about such big dialogs.. i am asking myself, if the all the developers have got a screen-size like 2800x1800 or whatever, really.
hm, i already have got an idea about that problem, since it is so easy to design just every setup-dialog of the whole Controlcenter (or its single kcm-modules) in a diffrent, (already known!;) , convienient style !

thanks

You should send your idea to [email protected] . The default colors etc of korganizer is very boring.

As I see the time field takes the place for 30 minutes. How do you want to display 30 minutes meetings? How do you want to display parallel meetings?

Although it looks nice, I do not think that this design is very practical.

Well, this is not "design for life" it's juist an idea, btw. you could put it between name of the day and 7.00, it could be also like it was before I don't care, just as long things start to change, I love KDE and I love Korganizer. Picture you see just mean that I care and I'm looking forward to inovation.

Yes, I've got an idea: put this under the 'KDE improvements' section, not the 'Wallpaper 1024x768' section.

sigh.. :)

To make it even more clear: you've posted in this section:
http://kde-look.org/index.php?xcontentmode=wall1024

You should post it here:
http://kde-look.org/index.php?xcontentmode=improvements

That's not too hard isn't it? :P

Think about what kde-look.org would look like if everyone would post their system sounds under screensavers, splash screens under X11 mouse themes and icons under wallpapers..

Uhmmm... it looks a bit tricky to implement that. I see two options:

1)Your design looks more like website. Actually it would be quite easy to implement it using KHTML, but that would require changing good part of the GUI, and I don't think that would be the best solution.

2) The other solution would be to change the widget that is shown for every appointment. I cannot recognise the widget that they use currently, so it's probably home-made, and therefore could be easy to change. If they had used buttons for example, the shape would be subject to the style, but it's not.

Awesome, that's already a lot better :)

Now we only have to get rid of the terrible calendar (buttons don't fit - KDE programmers should really be somewhat more creative) and those ugly splitter bars of course. :P

Oh, and by the way: this isn't a wallpaper ;)

It looks great. It's more clear and doesn't look as old fashioned as the current PIM applications. But the complete ui of the organizer needs a redesign so all looks fit together!
