Various KDE 1.-4. Improvements
Source (link to git-repo or to original if based on someone elses unmodified work): Add the source-code for this project on opencode.net
i ported the rounded selection, the rubberband and the konqueror sidebar patches from
http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=16962
to KDE 3.4 cvs (i think it is the RC). they work fine for me. i hope it will work for the KDE 3.4 final also. :)
To enable the new konqueror sidebar look add the line "SidebarStyle=1" in the file $HOME/.kde/share/config/konqsidebartng.rc in the group that has the same name of the profile you want to change:
For example:
[webbrowsing]
SidebarStyle=1
or
[filemanagement]
SidebarStyle=1
thx to Andrunko, he created the original kde 3.3 improvement patch :)

1.0.2
- fixed a small bug in the round edges in iconview that make icon alignment just plain wrong, on long zero-whitespace-char filenames
- removed parts of the patches that only changed layout of code and not the code it self
- addes FileTipBallon patch http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=21480
- splitted diff/patch files
thx to mabs for the fixed patches
1.0.1
- I added the kicker-systray patch from
http://www.kde-apps.org/content/show.php?content=15200
thx to ja-el

(1) missing alignments
It looks like shit in konqueror. Either the text will be left aligned (not left of the file thumbnail, but ALL strings aligned to the same line) or centered
(2) Consequency
The selection in QIconView has round corners, now. Why not the selection in ListViews/TreeViews?
I don't get it...
As long as these two thinsg are not fixed the rounded selection looks even worse than the rectangular one.
Regards

Agreed, good thing I've fixed this (atleast I think I did) and I'm sending it to original poster now.

There is a good reason for that ListViews and Iconview uses different code for displaying icons. And the rounded edges have only been implementet on iconview, which IMO is the best thing to do, since it would look wired in listview with the empty spaces between icons in the listview from the round edges.

I just have to currect myself. I misread your post earlier, sorry about that.
Thats not what I fixed. I'd a problem with icon-alignment, when the filename were just over one line in length, it would be misplaced and screw-up it alignment of all the icons in that folder, only work-around were to zoom-in to max icon size.
As I said before I misread your post therefor I agreed to something that you didn't say. I happen to like the way the text is aligned-to-center, I think it makes it easier to read and still looking good.

But please, loose the underlining, it makes the text harder to read.
Overall very polished looking desktop.
Nice colors, the two one row high kicker panels at the top and the bottom makes good use of Fitts law.
The new sidbar in konqueror is much better than the old one.
This is something I really would be looking forward to have on my desktop
