it apears to be a real photo of some brushed metal with a KDE logo excellently overlaid with highlighting and shadowing. The screws appear to be rendered and don't really fit too well with the rest of the image. If I had a suggestion, it would be to take the screws out.
Otherwise, this is AWESOME work...
It looks rendered to me; definately not real. Anyone who can screw in a screw and keep the top notches in perfect condition has very, very steady hands, ;)
Sweet looking, though...I'm using with a blue (always blue ;) Intensity (reversed) overlay and it looks decent.

Absolutely beautyful. Only the screws seem to me a bit unrealistic. How about some scratches from a screwdriver? ;-)

how did you manage to do that? Is the background a real shot or did you use a Gimp plugin ?
