I have discovered it on a slackware, and it has been my wallpaper for a long time ago, on several OS. I'm changing from times to times, but regularly go back to this Alien Night. Made only with GIMP? Congrats, very good work!
I like this wallpaper...but the download link doesn't work. =o(
Yeah, I know for a fact that's on Linux Slackware. And yes, it is default. But if he wanted to do it, then let him.
Ok, I know this gets said a lot on this page, but this is a horrible example of taking credit for others work. This exact wallpaper has been added by default on MANY distros for MANY years (it may actually be part of KDE). I am surprised no one that has commented yet has said anything yet. And here you are describing how you "made" this picture to people, KDE-look has too much unoriginal work as it is.
Wtf are you talking about? Firstly, It is part of many KDE using distros as I was contacted by the KDE team and asked if it could be added. If you still think its unoriginal then perhaps I can show you elements of the ~50mb .xcf original of this image. aswell as a dozen other incarnations that came before the final. So before you start rubbishing someone for "taking credit for artwork" just because you saw it somewhere else, why dont you check if my name was on it there before you start spreading bullshit. Get a clue
IT is biutiful! I like it! Very good spaceships
I don't know why it's rated below 70% amybe ebcause it hasn't got anything to do with KDE but than you used GIMS so it make sup for it =p Anyway congratulations it looks fantastic!
really nice work, grat again!
is it really done using only gimp? really impressive, and, kind of "insane".. :) millions and millions of small lights and windows everywhere.. how did you do it? any special tricks? b
yes only the GIMP. The lights are the easy part and didnt take that long at all. I did them by making a big yellow sqaure for one building face, and then cut it into a grid using the straight line/erase tool. This is done on its own layer, so then the color can be altered using mainly the gradient tool, then to make them glow, a rough yellow 50% translucency blob with the air brush over every square.
Congratulations amibug ! For me this is a very good example for a great work and it shows that it is worth to wait for real art like this. Even if you have to see a lot of crappy made-in-aminute or stolen so called wallpapers. Very nice ! Thanks ! :-)
...on the far right side of the sky, the stars jsut stop. Now I'm assuming this was deliberate, but to me it just seems wrong somehow. Otherwise, nice wallpaper.
Doh! hehe I totally missed it.
