hi, this was written for superkaramba and apparently doesn't work on plain karamba!

if we are already talking about numbers: independant institutes estimate a total of 200.000 children (!) - yeah right not just some civilians or some office people or whoever, just inncocent children - have died between 1990 and 2002 as a result of the un resolution of 1990.
but still numbers are nothing really, who can even understand the extent of 'only' a hundred deaths - thats like all people you know or value just gone in the blink of a second... so dont compare numbers of the size. to decide whether the iraqis were better off before the us decided to 'expand there economical and political interests in the middle east' is not up to any of us; just to the iraqis. and - although i admit we didnt have to much coverage before the war - i cant help but think that they are not happier now. although saddams regime was brutal and repressive , the chance of being blown up while trying get food for your kids were not really high (this is not meant funny ). AND there were no terrorists roaming the land doing how they plaese, kidnapping, killing and robbing people.
just to point out: i DO reject religious extremism, terrorism, dictatorships and the like, but just keep in mind that although we value democracy above most things, it might not be the ultimate truth for everybody everywhere ->some people(s) maybe just aint ready for it!

Oh crap, not the "children" comment again. Just to get things straight, there were terrorist roaming Iraq before we got there, they were simply calculating on how to kill us on our own soil.
One more thing, when the US 'flexes' its military might it is in defense of you and this great nation. Thank god we have a leader that takes the defense of this nations seriously, and not like the last pres who simply allowed us to continue to be slaughtered.

ps. Although I disagree with the political point of the counter, it is nice coding....

I believe it was Stalin who said, "A single death is a tragedy, a million deaths is a statistic". Not exact, Russian is fairly different.

Some would argue that it's not up to the Iraqis for the sole reason that the US was able to occupy the country.

Personally, I think the UN should've bitch slapped the US the second they ignored their descision.

Hussien is (was) a small fish, but The Russian Federation, Germany, France, and The People's Republic of China... they've got more than enough soldiers to at least register on the US' radar if the US wants to continue throwing it's military weight around (Provided any actually come back out of Iraq).

In trying to keep from starting a flame war, I'd like to thank you for this karamba theme. See, I work in an office of Republicans only, needless to say, their pro-war sentiment is downright annoying. This will definately get their attention, and I'll have numbers to randomly shout at people as they walk by my cubicle.

Funny how everybody's a peace lover (are you really one?) these days, without knowing more than what the media is spoonfeeding them. Here's my suggestion: add to the ticker the number of Iraqis killed by their own Iraqi terrorists. And a ticker with number of days since more than 3000 kids lost their parents in New York is in order? Somebody ought to delete your crap.

reported by a minimum of three independent sources. In fact, to be a peace lover you have look beyond the crap you're spoon-fed by the popular media. The people who lost their lives on September 11th have world-wide remembrance days, their names all read out in a ceremony attended by the president of the USA himself. The dead civilians in Iraq have no such televised ceremony and their deaths are barely acknowledge let aloned counted. You happily spout out the fact that 3000 kids lost their parents on 9/11. How would you know, without iraqbodycount.org, how many Iraqi civilians lost their lives???? And as for "killed by their own terrorists", what makes you think these aren't counted? get your facts right before you post crap like that. YOUR crap should be deleted.

IMO every death is worth to be counted, it's not like americans are better people or more worth by any means...

This is certainly not for entertainment! If you know of any other "better ways of honouring them" that are taking place then go ahead and tell me, but I don't remember their names being read out on TV, I don't remember most of the deaths reported on iraqbodycount.org even being reported on the mainstream news. Personally i'd like to thank the people behind iraqbodycount, we don't get enough coverage of the "other side", they're doing a great job!

well, if you whould count in dead americans the number whoulnt change much.

check:
amount killed iraqi civillians by americans and/or because of american attack on iraq:
20.000+
amount killed americans by iraqi's:
not much (war was short). at most I guess some 200...
amount killed by terrorist (eg 9/11): should we count that? its about the iraqi war, not about terrorists (eg Tsjetsjenie shouldnt be counted too...)
anyway if you insist, I guess some 3000?
Killed by saddam:
at least some 300.000 I guess, but a million might even be realistic.

so.

1.000.000 by Saddam. american' presense (not the american soldiers themselves, alot ppl in iraq are killed by terrorist attacks) costs a bit more than 20.000 lives. how is that compared? the attack of saddam did cost human lives. alot. but saddam was much worse. (think about toxic gass attacks on kurdian ppl - whole villages wiped out by Saddam's army).

if they didnt attack germany in World War II because they whould kill alot civilians that way, and let Hitler do whatever he wanted?

how whould the world be? harsh choices have to be made. I whould never say Bush did the right thing for the right reason, but I mostly question his motives.

Shoulnt we have attacked stalin, who has eliminated more than 20 MILLION russians in his rulership?

Is that they are documenting civilian deaths. Since most of those civilians are Iraqi it would seem that a high importance is being placed on Iraqi life.

As for every death (life) being counted, I agree, they should be, but for a non-military audience civilian deaths lead to a more powerful sympathetic reaction.

I'll stop here before I get into my incendiary rhetoric.

Excellent Idea, Probably won't end up on alot of desktops though. To ignore the results of ANY governments actions is to deny our own responsibility. Knowledge is power and can be used for positive change

As for Saddams body count, well he had the support of Ronald Reagan, George Bush Sr and good buddy Donald Rumsfeld until they needed a new whipping boy.

Sorry to extend this into the realm of political discussion.

I think you've been watching to much Michael Moore propaganda. If you want to whip someone for selling weapons to Saddam there are 10 other countries that sold more to Iraq than the USA, that being France, Russia, China and 7 more. Heck, the American amount is not even 0.5% of the total of weapons sold to Iraq from 1973 to 2002
