It looks very nice and I saw that you are working on plasmafying it, so I am waiting with good hopes :-)
However, is there a way to run it now on a KDE4 desktop? plasma can use karamba stuff, but I get following error in .xsession-errors:

Kross: "Error error=Import of the PyQt3 module is not allowed. Please use PyQt4 instead. lineno=17 trace=
File "/tmp/kde-evdvelde/runningThemes/fqiPEA/aRoK.py", line 4, in <module>
# aRoK "Alpha (Molokai)" by Lechio, Alessandros1pt@yhahoo.com.br

Can I circumvent this? Thanks in advance, great work!

I believe you can, running it in KDE3/superkaramba with the PyQT/PyKDE 3 libs. Yes, plasma does support karamba widgets, but this widget is not supported.
A plasmoid will be done from scratch it's, in my opinion, the best solution.

What are the versions of the libs this depends upon?

For the PyKDE and PyQT we are still using the 3.x ones. Any version of 3.x will work.

Crashed on the theme startup? Have you done a clean install, uninstalling any previous aRoK version and restarting superkaramba?

This is the first time I've installed aRoK, I have the same problem with amaroKer...

Now I've tried to remove aRoK and reinstalled again, but when I click on the .skz file superkaramba crashes.

Hi there. I really would like to get this issue fixed, I just can't yet tell from where the problem comes from. Tried to reproduce but Superkaramba refuses to crash on my system. I'm a bit clueless...

Hi. Thank you for reporting those. The clock should now show the correct time with Daylight Time Savings. As for the proxy support will have to look at it and try to include it with next update. Best regards, Lechio

Cool theme. Just downloaded it. The mail doesn't work. I suppose it's since I'm behind a proxy? Could you add proxy support? :D

I have nothing but praise for your good work. The aRok theme installed without incident, tried and tested OK, wonderful.
Alas on my next startup, Supakaramba informs me via KDE Crash handler of a signal 11 (SIGSEGV). I am gutted to say the least as I've tried everything to resolve this. Forgive me, I am a novice learning fast but I should say that I have a pclinuxos setup with s/karamba 0.359 pre-installed. I upgraded to 0.39 when this prob started. no joy. Oddly it is still shown on list of my s/karamba themes and shown as installed on the theme's list "Get More Sruff" window. I have also tried ur suggestions to astronomer
Please, Please help.

Hi there, thank you for the feedback. I believe i've managed to identify this issue that may cause SuperKaramba to crash on some systems, it's related with the DCOP interface when the application that provides the menu is created. Will issue a fix, that hopefully will correct this problem, ASAP. Sorry about that... Best regards, Lechio.

Hi there. No ideia why superkaramba is crashing there, I tested this on my system with Debian, Mandrake, Kubuntu, Slack and BSD no problems with these. Don't have FC to test it. My guess is that it may be a problem related with yor python install, check if you have pyKDE installed, also check if dcopserver is running in yor KDE session.

i've pykde, pyqt installed... could be python2.5 the problem?
i've been reading some forums where says that superkaramba0.42 don't work with python2.5...

i don't know what to do :(

Don't know about FC but python2.5+superkaramba have no issues in my system. Try to use the non-pyKDE option as the error I believe comes from there. Here's how: Rename aRoK.skz to aRoK.zip, extract the file, open aRoK.py with a text editor. Near the the top where it says 'force_nopykde':False change to 'force_nopykde':True. Load the theme from that dir, should load ok now...

Without that change, KDE crash handler shows:

[New Thread 46912496438592 (LWP 25674)]
[New Thread 1084229968 (LWP 25715)]

Making the change, appear a window that says that arok could be runing or not. After, crash!, and:
[Thread debugging using libthread_db enabled]
[New Thread 46912496438592 (LWP 27550)]

...still not working.

This is friggin' brilliant!

One suggestion for improvement, though: pictures (and amarok album art) are pretty low quality most of the time. Especially album art is very 'pixely'.

Anyway, super job. I don't know how you can be only at 70%+, 85 should be the minimum :)

Report

C

Lechio

Hi there, thank you for the comment. The 'pixely' work on album art is (for this time only) not my fault :) we ask amarok for the album cover, amarok replies with a miniature of that same cover (by default an image with 150px), we then resize that miniature the best we can. This can be fixed in the config dialog of amarok, change the size of miniatures to something like 300px and no more 'pixely' art :). The satisfaction comes from people using my work, not the kde-look rating.

Report

PARENA

You know what? I never even noticed the 'Default size for cover previews' option in Amarok. Thanks for the heads up. 200 pixels was enough.

Okay, I'll try another issue. :) I use the keyboard to control amarok. But aRok doesn't listen to the status. It updates the currently playing song, but when I press my 'pause' button on the keyboard, aRok doesn't change the 'screen' accordingly.

And I alrealdy noticed I'm wrong. It just takes like 5 seconds. I'm a bit impatient. :)

Report

C

Lechio

We give it some time there... :) we could be updating the status faster but that would take more CPU to do that. But... 5secs is allot of time... Do you have pyKDE installed? It's easy to check that, click on the top left corner of the applet, if it pops up a menu with submenus you have it, if it pops up a simple menu you don't have pyKDE and you'd be better installing it as it makes the applet allot more efficient and more responsive...
This is a thing that will be allot better handled when we change from the current method (DCOP) to D-BUS, available in amarok 2.
