ok :D i used Inkscape, if i were you I would start off with a piece of work done by someone else and see how its structured, and you can learn a lot like how to recolor things and how to move and make lines. Inkscape uses vectorized images so its a lot easyer than GIMP making things pixel perfect, I hope that this helped and would like to see what you end up with.
I agree. It's a lot easier to start with customizing existing icons. That way you learn what effect a smaller structure in the picture has when you see the whole icon.

How did you made the icons? whit Inkscape, GIMP? and where i can find tutorials for drawing icons whit this programs, and your theme is good ;)

I like the folders. They do fit well with the Cobble-mod and matching power-manager, cpu-freq. and speaker icons you made.
