Resolution is 1280x1024.

Background was taken from gnome-look.
PS: Sorry, I do not have an idea how to make a screenshot from grub.

Extract the theme to /boot/grub/themes/
Edit /etc/default/grub
file. Find the line starting with "#GRUB_THEME" and change it to "GRUB_THEME=/boot/grub/themes/[THEME_FOLDER]/[theme.txt]" (replace [THEME_FOLDER] ; [theme.txt] is probably OK ; remove "[]" brackets)
Run sudo update-grub

Sorry for the late answer. First, the binary is in the package, look in ../boot for the message.ubuntumsk-1280x1024 file, it's the precompiled message. For compiling, you need an older package. The gfxboot package from Ubuntu didn't work here either. I have grub-gfxboot 0.97-11 running and compiled the message with gfxboot-3.2.35-1.
Finally someone build 1280x1024 gfxboot theme resolution..i would to change the image background but i can't find gfxboot-devel package working on my machine :( (debian amd64) ... when i try to compile this stuff i got this error message: make bootdir mkbootmsg -O -v -L ../.. -l boot/log -c boot.config boot/init make: mkbootmsg: Command not found make: *** [bootdir] Error 127 Is mkbootmsg a part of gfx-devel package? If so, how to find it? thanks :)
Could you please add a binary download alternative?
I think the way to do it is through virtualization (eg. vmware etc) I don't have enough RAM to do that :)
Thanks for the info. Unfortunately I can't do this. So if someone can send me a screenshot I will it update here.
