Conky siempre me ha parecido más configurable un problema que encontré es que conkyRhythmbox arroja una ruta que no es posible de leer entonces el script que hice arregla ese problema.
para quienes no conozcan Conky es una herramienta, monitor de escritorio altamente configurable y liviano.

conky there are several things in this category, as conky could be considered a lightweight and customizable screenlet
I think usually widgets using this API are considered Screenlets: http://www.screenlets.org/index.php/Documentation#Screenlets_API I think you can even use Conky in a Screenlet, but they are still different frameworks.
