Now, if only the X-Server would support alpha-transparency it would be nice. Until then you have to stick to a rectangular design. This is not a judgement on your design. It's just a note about that this is currently technically impossible on Linux.
I thought X.org would support Alpha Transparancy, does it not?
The X.org server does not support all graphic cards and it's not bundled with most distros (if there are any).
