Description: Mostly-configurable Mac-like (see screenshots) drop-in replacement for KSplash. Notice that this is a seperate software package which physically replaces your ksplash binary. Not for the weak-of-heart. This _should_ work with KDE 2.1 and greater, but who knows for sure. Includes a KCM module to help you configure it (each user can set it up differently). (This is REALLY early stuff. My apologies for it being so crude... I'll be sure to post updates as I make it work better.) Simple to configure and install. Very configurable (though more improvement is needed). -- This release includes some further bug fixes, and a few new features. BUG FIXES: Problems with customized splash screen handling fixed. Problems with certain crashes fixed. NEW FEATURES: Icons can now be disabled, if user doesn't wish to see them. Preparations for customizable icons made (and you can customize all of the icons, by manually editing the kdeglobals file. . "Restore Default" splash screen button added. I hope you enjoy this! -dT-
Yep, I'll release an update fixing some of the bugs, and I will hopefully be finished with all of the features I want to add. Sorry for taking so long, I've taken a bit of time off from coding this project. I'll get right back on it! (Y'all are welcome to send along feature requests, I'll consider everything I see. :) -dT-
Hi. This ksplash-replacement looks really great, but I can't find it in kcontrol.
I'm using Mandrake 8.1 with KDE 2.2.
There were no errors when I compiled and installed it, but there's no kcm-module
i like the image you use for the splash screen, but i prefer kde's style of showing the progress to mac's. any chance you could throw together a standard splash screen with that look?
KSplash-ML looks really good! Well done!
Unfortunally, one thing is missing: internationalization. You don't have to make a big KDE translation - an option to change the messages would do. Thanks for your good work!
I use Mandrake 8.1 and it compils fine appart from a few warnings about include_next. I find though that Mandrake does not install all the dev libraries for KDE and others also. Check in the software installer for kde and install all the libs that are not installed for kde and qt.
I can't get this to compile. Here's the output I get:
~~~~~
/usr/local/bin/dcopidl2cpp --c++-suffix cpp --no-stub wndmain.kidl
Could not read wndmain.kidl
~~~~~
That file doesn't exist on my machine. Any ideas?
MDK8.1
one last thing I thought of-- display the version of KDE in the splash. it helps (new) people know what version of kde they are using (and also helps in support of such ppl).
also, don't put "?" after the kcontrol settings--read the KDE usability guidelines, but other than that, looks great! with a little refinement/bug fixes, you should email coolo or dfaure for a kde cvs account :)
I've had this same problem happen to me a few times as well. Definitely, the splash screen should take over the screen until the entire desktop is truly ready for use, but it should also go away once the desktop it ready to go! :) Still a very good ksplash replacement though. A couple of things:
I would like the executable to support parameters for the various options (don't display icons, don't display status bar, etc.).. that way, for lower resolution or remote display, (with some good shell scripting) you can turn those off for those users!
Also, would it be possible to install itself as like ksplash-ml, back up the old ksplash executable to like ksplash.original and then create a symlink from ksplash - ksplash-ml. This would make packaging alot easier as it wouldn't be writing over another packages files. (I could add those scripts to the %post-install% section of the RPMs).
I just read about your version about ksplash and thought great.
everything works fine. it compiles it installs without problems.
but when kde starts, the splash screen is displayed and working but won't disappear when kde is up and running :)

Hehehe, I'm glad you like it! No, I haven't tried to submit this to the Kore developers yet. I figured they had better things to do than worry 'bout KSplash. :) -dT-

(Actually, I already have one. I'll see if I can upload it...)

(Check out the KSplash (dT) package.) :) -dT-
This should go into the KDE core projekt, very nice!!!
the compilation is simple, before... mv /usr/local /usr ln -s /usr /usr/local make and install...

a progress bar, like macos, would be nioe ;D

You have built something that I was waiting for...I think that ksplash should be part of kde3.0! Great work!! Thank you!!

One minor problem on Mandrake 8.1 the icons do not disapear after login but they did in the last release.
Thanks for this one and it should be submitted to the kore it would make that extra little difference to kde.

The software looks great, did you try to submit it to the KDE project itself? I think it's much better than the current KSplash. :)
