Description: I took saltwater's bootsplash theme and added a mng file of my own creation. Then I used configfiles and another picture fronm the bootsplash homepage so that now I have what is hopefully a fully working animated theme.
This has not been tested by myself.
If anyone knows how to get bootsplash working on debian let me know because I have been unable to.Last changelog:
0.2 - I slowed down the rate of movement of the animation and added a different shutdown anim.
the bootsplash looks really good the only problem i have is that the progress bar doesn't move :-(
The spanish howto mentioned above is helpful but i think it paints a "normal" progress bar but i would like to use the one from the theme... so i think i need to fiddle a bit more to get it to work... any hints are very welcome
I know why! Instead of binding the start of the anim to fsck do whatever the first init script run in your favorite runlevel is. (Mine is sysklogd). Edit the animations.cfg. The same for shutdown. Now if I could get a good kernel... Darn!
Nope, I tried Abby's patch from crackice, but when I go to make menuconfig for my 2.4.21 kernel all I see under console drivers is vga text console and video mode selection support. I can't even enable Vesafb.
What's up with that?
I have unofficial patches for .21 and .21ac4 (which is what I'm running on woody) ... I think there is no problem to get it working under debian, the only problem is patched kernel (at least I think so, so don't beat me ;))
thanks for the link!
I don't know any spanish whatsoever, but I used http://babelfish.altavista.com/babelfish/tr as a translator and it works very well.
I haven't read it all yet, but I just thought someone else might find the translator useful

Thank you, everyone. I'm going to try again. I think I can get the kernel patched this time.

I made an unofficial bootsplash patch for the newest kernel 2.4.21. You can get it at my website: http://www.crackice.com
Here you have a detailed HOWTO to get a working bootsplash with progress bar in Debian: http://bulmalug.net/body.phtml?nIdNoticia=1807 It's in spanish, but with a little effort... ;)
