Well, I can't fully utilize Inkscape yet, so I'm combining existing icons (this is a dirty hack), I didn't really thought about the copyright issue. The idea of using icons inside a box comes from the idea of when you clean your stuff, you normally keep it inside boxes and you label the box to know it's contents. A launcher was my first idea but I can't seem to make a good one :'( they look like Flintstone's cars loll
Don't use other icons INSIDE your icon, this can cause confusion by the user, poor metaphor, and most importantly, copyright problems (Firefox logo is a Mozilla copyright, for your information). A good proposal, as said, is something related to the Gnome (so, the Gnome foot), combined with something that reveals the launching intention (a spring, or maybe a rocket, a catapult... but I guess the spring is still the better metaphor for launching).
The metaphor I see when i think of this app is either something like what you have, except maybe with the little springy launcher icon on the box or possibly the little springy launcher icon combined with the gnome menu icon. hope this helps inspire you : )
The springy launcher was my first possibility but I've substituted it with a label.
