Porting dockbarx as a Gnome Shell extension would require a rewrite in javascript if I'm not mistaken. The reason making the dock was partly for people to be able to use it together with gnome shell. I intend to improve the theming ability of the dock so that it fits better with gnome shell.

It would be nice if you implement standalone dock background theming. I mean,ability to add one pixmap for background in dockbarx theme.

Hey m,
it would be nice if you could add a hotkey to dockx if its hidden. Also can you make it that dockx is still clickable when compiz scale is active (like the unity dock)?

I think adding tabbed sub-docks would solve a lot of issues re: grouping of icons by subject/app type/file folders and enabling an increased number of icons to to located in the Dockbar while keeping them under control.

I installed from source, but now I want to install from the ppa, for automatic updates. I must first remove it? And how is it done?

There's no atomatic uninstaller, sadly uninstallers aren't supported by distutils. If you run ./setup.py -vn you'll see where the packages are installed so that you can remove them.

The python files are installed in a folder that ends with
dist-packages/dockbarx/

and a egg-info file like this one is made: Dockbarx-0.45.egg-info

That folder and file is what you need to remove before switching to the ppa.

Hi,
First of all, I'd like to thank you for your work with dockbarx, it is great, low on resources, does not require compositing, but still visually appealling. Everything that is required for a lightweight, fast desktop. There are two features for what I'd like to draw your attention

1. I think there are quite a few users, who run dockbarX in Xfce, via xfapplet. And in the future, I think will be even more Xfce users, because of the changs in Gnome3. I think it will be great to have native Xfce support, it will raise the number of dockbar users. I am planning to start some modifications on xfce panels/applets, I can help you porting.

2. I personally like to distribute my work on desktops. It will be great to support dragging windows to another workspaces from dockbarX, it is faster and more intuitive, than playing with menus.

Sorry for the late reply, I'm kind of busy this week. I will contact you via launchpad when I finish all this stuff around me.
About the moving: both in Gnome2 and Xfce you can grab a window from the taskbar and drag it into a workspace in the workspace/desktop switcher applet, and the window is moved to that workspace/desktop (whatever is called). This is a quick way to arrange the windows between workspaces.

Hi there. Is there any chance of getting a native panel plugin for XFCE? Bonobo no longer works in archlinux so I can no longer use xfapplet. Right now, I am using the avant window navigator applet, but dockbarx is the only reason I have avant window navigator installed!

I've actually looked into that the last few days, but there's not alot of documentation on writing panel plugins for xfce in python. So the answers is maybe.

Hi! I love dockbar, but I miss the option to disable grouping. I think there are people who likes to know exactly what windows are on their taskbar, so if it is not a big thing, would you mind implementing it?

(I'm not sure if I remember correctly, but I think there was an option for this in some older versions. Was there a reason to remove it?)

No, DockbarX has never had ungrouping and - sorry - it never will. DockbarX shows applications on the taskbar, nothing else. Multiple identical icons on the taskbar shouldn't improve your productivity it only divides your focus between the work you do and remembering which icon that was which window. This is a contrast to the idea behind DockbarX, that your pinned applications never move so that you can launch, switch windows and do other things with the pinned application just by using muscle memory, not actively diverting the focus from the work you do.

Bare with me, my profession is teaching and because of that I rather try to learn the users what *I* think is the right way than to give them what they believe they want. ;)

Sometimes you need fast switching between windows of the same application, for that I've developed the locked list. And I've also spent some time on improving the scroll-wheel window switching to make it as easy and fast as possible to use.

Hi. I was using dockbarx in Maverick and it's great! However, I recently upgraded to Natty and now the opacify and compiz scale features no longer work. I have all the relevant plugins enabled in compiz so I don't know why this is.

Oh, perhaps I should recommend a fix too and not just rant...

For compiz scale please send in the ~/.dockbarx/log/dockbarx.log if you can't get it to work. If you really want opacify back you'll have to downgrade compiz. Here are instructions to do so. Opacify doesn't work because of compiz 0.9.x I'm afraid it never will again. :( Opacify was pretty much an ugly hack that used compiz brightness, saturn and opacity plugin in a way it wasn't meant to be used.

Compiz scale should work with dockbarx 0.44, earlier versions didn't work with compiz 0.9.x.

Ok. Nothing in your log is related to compiz scale. There was another little bug though, thanks for that.

Check in compiz settings manager if the D-Bus plugin is active.

DockbarX is great!!!
Only a suggestion.. can you add a delay between the overing of the mouse on the preview window and the beginning of the compiz plugin "opacize" (maybe adjustable)?
Thie feature is great, but not every time a window is selected.
I'd like a gap because if i stay on the preview window, it could be a reason to show only that window
[I hope you understand what i'm saying]
