Description:
Name = Kubuntu Ultra Splash (Moodin)
Description = Sleek & Professional KSplash Theme for Kubuntu
Version = 1.5.1

***If you have upgraded from v1.5 to v1.5.1 and have not noticed a difference, you may need to clear the Moodin cache located in yourhome/.kde/share/apps/ksplash/cache/Moodin***

This theme also has a matching KDM theme located @
http://kdelook.org/content/show.php?content=29331

This theme requires Moodwrod's Moodin Engine.
The moodin engine is/will be included in Dapper and is also available for Breezy in backports.

This theme includes the official Kubuntu Breezy Wallpaper. All credit for this wallpaper goes to the author.

This theme uses the user's selected icon set and works with most common screen resolutions. In addition, it has backgrounds included for wide-screen and high-resolution monitors.

Installation:
*************
Use the Splash Screen Theme Manager in 'System Settings'->'Desktop'->'Splash Screen' to install this theme.
Be sure that your Login manager background is set to use the official Kubuntu wallpaper for consistency. This can be set in 'System Settings'->'Login Manager'->'Background'.

Using your own background:
**************************
1.Extract kubuntuUltraSplash.tar.gz
2.Open up your wallpaper in the Gimp and open the Dialog.png file included the "Source Images" folder as a new layer.
3.Export the resulting image back to the KubuntuUltraSplash folder and be sure to name it Background.jpg.
4.Compress the folder as KubuntuUltraSplash.tar.gz and install it as normal.
5.Also be sure to change the 'System Settings'->'Login Manager'->'Background' to the same background for consistency.

***Users of 1900x1200, 1600x1200 & 1440x900.
********************************************
If you have problems with your background being the wrong size, scaling incorrectly or fonts being too small or too big, do the following:

1.Extract the KubuntuUltraSplash.tar.gz
2.Rename your resolution specific background(i.e Background-1600x1200.jpg) to Background.jpg
3.In Theme.rc change 'BaseResolution =' to your monitors resolution. (This will prevent auto-scaling of background and fonts)
4.Compress the folder as KubuntuUltraSplash.tar.gz and re-install it.
5.Test the theme. If Label and Status Font sizes still need to be adjusted, extract and open Theme.rc, make changes to font sizes, compress folder & re-install.

I'm tyring to use a 1024x768 image for the background, but everytime I set it as the background, it's getting streched as if it were a 1280x1024 image. I've adjusted both the image location and the baseresolution settings, but my image is still getting streched.

NeoChaosX

Okay, I've gotten the wallpaper to scale correctly. What I had to do was change "BaseResolution=1024x768" to "BaseResolution=1024,768". What it was doing on the previous resolution was loading the default 1280x1024 background, and scaing it down to 1024. With the fixed setting,it was properly finding the 1024 background, but now that means that the icon placement has been screwed up. Is this another problem with moodin?

jbus

Unfortunately autoscaling can not be disabled in moodin. You should use a 1280x1024 background if possible and let it autoscale.Otherwise you will have to manually tweak the icon size and spacin in the rc. Also, after changing background resolutions and baseresolution settings, I strongly suggest you clear the moodin cache.

profoX

I just wanted to say that if you apt-get dist-upgrade, atleast with Kubuntu 6.04, you'll get this Splash automatically :)

jbus

Yes that's correct... It has been added as default splash in the Dapper repos. The KDM theme has also been added as default.

Two quick things. First, it should be noted that the widescreen resolution is actually 1920x1200, not 1900. And second, When I try to get the theme to work with my 1920x1200 display, both by attempting to rename the background and edit the resolution to "BaseResolution = 1920X1200" and "BaseResolution = 1900X1200" it seems to apply the background correctly, but also seems to still be setting the resolution much lower, the background is large and skewed. If anybody could help me out with this, I would appreciate it.

jbus

chadwick359, I sorry I don't havea monitor to test at that resolution. For the scaling problem... have you tried clearing the Moodin cache? it is located at yourhome/.kde/share/apps/ksplash/cache/Moodin For the background - You can open the svg in gimp and make it whatever size you need then just import the dialog.png

jbus

I was having a severe brownout here and had to shut down my computers and router so my last response wasn't exactly complete. I have noticed the scaling problem as well and contacted moodrod about it. Hopefully future versions of moodin will allow us to disable scaling or fix whatever is causing this issue. For right now the best solution I can think of would be to uninstall the theme, clear the mooding cache and make the changes I suggest in the readme before installing again. If you need help with the 1920x1200 background email me at the address in my user info.

mattie

hello, I just tried it and I like it, but it seems the K icon is misaligned on my 1600x1200 desktop.. could you fix that? :) or can I edit this myself somewhere?

jbus

In the Theme.rc file edit this line: ImageOffset8 = -1,155 Change the 155 to 200 or above. You can test it to see what works best for you. I don't have that good of a monitor, but 200 works for my monitor at 1280x1024 so I expect that yours will need to be a little higher.

jbus

This issue has been solved in v1.5.

When I try to install it, following the directions, the splash manager says I need the Moodin plugin. I've been searching for it with no luck. I'm using the preview version of Kubuntu Breezy. I really like the splash and want to use it bad. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Thank You!! It works great!

Jeremy

I'm using Kubuntu Breezy too and its as easy as typing "sudo apt-get install ksplash-engine-moodin" (and then your password) or alternatively, opening up the Adept package manager and searching for "moodin" and clickety click click ;)

npu

I got "This theme requires the plugin Moodin which is not installed" too (installed via Adept on Kubuntu Breezy), but could still choose a theme. Just logged out/in and it works + complains no more.

shanodyn

I like the fact it uses the icons installed on the system and that it calls me by my name (my machine recognizes me, at last !) but, as far as I know, Moodin' engine authorizes (and is fun because of that) a non-squared splash and, position of icons wherever you want them to be... so it would really be cool to make a less square/straight line version for those who don't need the "professional look"... But anyway, I love it.

Jeremy

Indeed, this should really be in the next official Kubuntu release. Great work !

pippovic

Hello, please upload your work also to http://art.ubuntu.com/ Thank you!

philipacamaniac

Gosh, I just won't shutup on these comments. When using the Crystal SVG icon theme, the lower KDE icon doesn't seem to work. It only shows a piece of paper, representing the default icon when no icon is set or found. If I switch to anything else (Nuvola, nuoveXT, Crystal Clear) then it works. Also, I'm on Kubuntu 5.04 Hoary, so the Crystal SVG theme might be slightly modified. Any ideas?

jbus

Fixed in version 1.4, Thanks for pointing out this issue.

darkelder

Finally moodin engine and a very nice splash here for kubuntu

felipe

works perfectly at this resolution, only issue: i had to rename Background.jpg to Background.png. Kubuntu Breezy, KDE 3.5 Beta 1 (nice!)

jbus

I'm glad it works for you, I was concerned about the icon positioning at higher than 1024 resolutions, and since I wasn't able to test it... I didn't want a bunch of people upset that it looked like crap and not be able to fix it. It seems like it should be ok for higher resolutions provided you use a higher res background, but I will test it out today to be sure. As for the issue of having to rename from Background.jpg to Background.png, I'm not sure what the problem is. The file actually is a PNG that has been renamed to a JPG, but as far as I know Moodin won't display a file named Background.png, so it's weird that you go it working like that. I'm not having any trouble with it named Background.jpg here.

moodwrod

u can simply place: Background = Background.jpg in the theme file. this would set it to a fix file name. sorry for the bad (not really existing documentation). next version is coming soon. i was very busy the last time. btw: great theme
