Every time I tried to install the icons using the "Install new theme" option in the icons section of the control center gui, I would have the pleasure of seeing nothing happen.

After a few times of this, I decided to do it the old fashion way, and issued the following commands:

# tar -xvzf Auqa.tar.qz
# mv Auqa/Icons/CrystalOSX /usr/share/icons
# cd /usr/share/icons
# chmod 644 index.desktop

Then simply enter the control center, click on look and feel, then go to the icons section and you should see a new option appear called "Conectiva Crystal" or similar.

This worked well for me on rh 7.3

Hope this helps anybody.

That's how it worked for me on my Suse 9.1
and KDE 3.2.2:

1) Untar the Aqua.tar.gz to an empty directory.

2) Find the CrystalOSX -Folder which is in
Aqua/Icons.

3) Right-klick the CrystalOSX -Folder and choose "make tar-gz"* under actions.

Now you have the proper icon-set-archive.
You can install it like it tells you in the install-how-to.

Have Fun!

*I'm not sure about the words in 3) because
i use a german version of KDE.

For those struggling to get it to work, in KDE 3.1 or 3.2, simply extract the contents of the download into /usr/share/icons/crystalosx and then fire up KDE Control Centre - bingo!

I extracted the contents into a folder "crystalosx" and moved it to /usr/share/icons/crystalosx... but even after an X-server-reboot, i can't choose the MacOS-Icons in the KDE-Control-Centre... (Submenu "Look and Feel"-"Icons"). Even if I want to "Install New Theme" and choose the "index.desktop", it doesn't work.... what's wrong?

love the theme -- i think it is better than all others ive seen so far,
however i get a message like: "could not install theme: invalid archive" on kde 3.1 / SuSE 9.0 prof.
any suggestions?

yep.

as far as i recall the tarball not only contains the icons, but also a theme/style and other things...

just untar the tarball, then you'll find the icons-dir...

Any chance you could get this working on KDE3.2? I know it's kind of new, but I'd REALLY like to have this icon set!!! It looks WAY cool!

BELOW ARE 2 DOWNLOAD SITES FOR THESE ICONS

http://mywebpages.comcast.net/c0d3monkey/crystalosx.zip
http://cse.unl.edu/~jricha/linux/Aqua.tar.gz

Be gentle on these sites as these are the only 2 I have found on the net who have the icons...If you want to mirror them, then please do so. Also, these more than likely cannot be emailed as they are a hefty 10MB file.

The new link is a file with one single file, called something like penguimroot.png, and then the only other file is what looks to be an attempt at a buffer overflow attack (a file named "@@@@[email protected]@@@" (lots of @s), and then inside is what looks like shell code) - not an expert on security myself, so I can't reverse engineer what it does or what it would attempt to exploit, but I have a feeling in my gut that its up to no good. And its a shame too, cause I had the original file but it got deleted, and it was a really nice icon theme.

Yeah there's something definitely wrong with this file. Avoid downloading it for now.
