Just in case anyone is interested, I'm using the QNiX window decoration and widget style. And I'm using the slick icon theme. For people not familiar with KDE, the IRC client seen there is ksirc which is distributed with KDE. KWord up front is the KOffice word processor. Kate, in the background there, is a text editor which is also distributed with KDE. Konqueror, KDE's web browser is also there. Makes you feel like not using GNOME eh?

How do you cut the taskbar from the panel?
what kind of fond and size do you use ?
got it, thanks.
how did you resize your whole menu bar?
I'm pretty sure the KDE2.2 series allows you to set the percentage width of the panel, or it maybe just 2.2.2, which I'm running. Go to the panel preferences, you should see functionality group called Panel Size as soon as the prefs editor loads.
How did you get these small icons next to the menu-button (in the lower right-hand corner)?
I think it's the Quick Launcher panel applet.
It's the Quick Launcher applet. It holds a lot of icons I use very regularily, and out of pure laziness I haven't added the normal buttons on my panel to it. ;)
