contrary to popular belief, gentoo is the easiest to install/use (at least in my experience) because the docs are just a millions more better than any other distros and the community is always there to help you with very knowledgeable people (due to the fact that they probably have learned a lot using gentoo themselves as opposed to other disto users).
Well, nothing against gentoo, but most freaks, switching from win to linux are a bit confused because of the many options of most linux-installers. They want it the simple way (at least at the beginning), insert cd, two klicks and ready, before they even dare to think of working/adjusting (on) an installation. Not everyone is a programmer and most "average users" are already frightened by simple windows install-procedures. ; )
quite interesting to see that a first-time linux user starts with gentoo, which is not actually a newbie-distro. hats off! *bows* : )
