A small bugfix release. This time all the fame should go to Sebastian Muszynski ([email protected]) because he has done all fixes.

KSetiSaver
- is now able to handle client & data in different directories correctly (this was quite messed up)
- the error messages are more descriptive in some cases

Try to run KsetiSaver in a console typing: "ksetisaver --setup". You may get an error complaining about a missing libGL. In this case you may want to install all tyour distributions OpenGL stuff. However sometimes you need to make a symlink with the name of the libGL KSetiSaver wants pointing to another libGL on your system.

KsetiSaver doesn't use OpenGL, but ir doesn't run when the lib is not present. Don't ask me why.

so, i executed ksetisaver in its directory, with the --setup option, and i could set it up fine. and when i did ./ksetisaver, a little window popped up, and it looked like it was running the screensaver. the console from which i typed it said this as it was running:

heleo datlen 512
Max is 255

but it seemed that the program was running okay. it said stuff like "Accessing," and displayed some numbers, and what looked like one of the best-fit graphs.

BUT! it won't run on its own as a screensaver, even after i specified the correct directory for my SAH client. and even though i have it as an option in my screensavers tab (from right-clicking the desktop; remember that i soft-linked the .desktop file into my Screensavers directory) i can't get to the same setup menu, nor can i run a test, like i can with other screensavers.

and i don't get any OpenGL errors anywhere.

Hmm, this seems to be a bug. Have you checked wheter the ksetisaver executable is in the same directory, where all the KDE3 executables reside? E.g. on some sytems the kde binaries go to /opt/kde3/bin/. If KSetiSaver goes into /usr/bin on such a sytsem it might not work as expected.

If this is not the problem, I don't know what's happening :-(

i'm running SuSE 8.0, so it would be /opt/kde3/bin/ where the executable SHOULD have gone, yes?

ALL of the ksetisaver files (the executable and .desktop file included) are in in ~/[subdirectories]/ksetisaver/

did it not make the install correctly?

You noted that the "Start seti automatically" features are now working correctly.

I have been using this screensaver for a little while now (and I really like it) but my main problem has been that it doesn't kill seti when the screensaver goes away (although it would start it when the screen saver came on). Do these release notes indicate that this has been fixed?

I hope so :-) I actually have a little script sitting on my desktop called "Kill Seti" so I can kill it after my computer comes out of screensaver mode :-)

This has been fixed in version 0.3 - at least I hope so!

Keep in mind that it may take up to 1 minute to kill setiathome after the screensaver is deactivated.

KSetiSaver writes a log about its activities in starting & stopping setiathome. The logfile is $HOME/.setiwatchdog.log

Hi,
i have a little problem. I use a 15" monitor with a working resolution of 800x600. The screensaver is fine, but it works on a resolution of 1024x768.
Is it possible to change the resolution of the screensaver to 800x600 Pixel ?

KSetiSaver uses a fixed resolution of 1024x768. On screens with higher reolutioons it centers itself. It also does so on screens with lower resolution, but since it get's truncated then, it looks ugly :-(

You have to ask someone to buy you a new monitor :)

I've got KDE3.0 and Qt 3.0.3 (from official SuSE RPMs), so it should work, but when I compile I get the following error:

checking for Qt... configure: error: Qt (>= Qt 3.0.2) (library qt-mt) not found. Please check your installation!
For more details about this problem, look at the end of config.log.
Make sure that you have compiled Qt with thread support!

Any ideas, or should I wait for someone to make a SuSE RPM for the version that works with KDE3?

I get the same error with Mandrake 8.2. I'd be pleased to hear from you if the author provides a solution.

Make sure that you have compiled Qt with thread support!

KSetiSaver doesn't work on a bar MDK 8.2 installation since it needs QT3 and KDE3.

However if you have installed the KDE3/QT3 binary AND developer packages it might help to give configure the path to QT3 like this:

./configure --with-qt-dir=/usr/lib/qt3/

I like this one!
...perhaps you could add a progress indicator showing which percentage of the wu has already been "crunched"...
(modyfied the proggy by myself, but it looks rather poor and guess you could do this much better...)

Native KDE-Screensavers. Finally. This is great.

Looks professional. I especially like the title-bar (Scanning, Signal detected...) and your choice of fonts and colors. Simply great.
