OpenOffice.org is a free productivity suite compatible with all major office suites.

OOo Writer is a powerful tool for creating professional documents, reports, newsletters, and brochures. You can easily integrate images and charts in documents, create everything from business letters to complete books with professional layouts, as well as create and publish Web content.

This version contains KDE integration: KDE Native Widget Framework, KDE Crystal icons, and KDE file dialog.

Logic dictates the best course would be to intergrate Koffice with all of OOo's best features. If Koffice could do all of what OOo could do it would be a far better Publishing suite (not that is isn't already). Additionally, OOo could then put into use all of Koffices features (like being able to open WordPerfect files). The two could share to make each other better thus eliminating the need for a KDE version of OOo. I currently do use Kendy's KDE version of OOo because I enjoy the intergration. It is a fine work of programming, Kendy, you should be proud. However pc22, does have a point. Koffice is already highly intergrated and has many feature that OOo lacks (like wise Koffice is lacking some features of OOo). Work together to share feature and the like, each suite will benefit and developement redundancy will be eliminated. However, regardless of what course you decide on Kendy, your efforts are much appreciated.

well, I prefer Koffice, altough some features from OO.o whould be nice. but OO.o is too slow, and almost only sun ppl work on it. I think 2 guys more on Koffice whould do much more than 2 more on OO.o, even if you take in account the current size of the project (eg 10% more developers for Koffice do more than 10% for OO.o, I think).

so I'd prefer more ppl on Koffice, indeed.

aaaah, won't happen. its te same situation as Khtml...

I get this message when I try to make the installation :

You need libgcc_s.so.1 from gcc 3.3. I am not a Mandrake user, so I have no clue what package contains it, but I'd start with something like gcc3.3-3.3.4-2mdk.i586.rpm or similar.

It doesn't work

I've got a 1.1.3 version of Open Office wich works. It shold mean that I have everything. No ?

Wouldn't be better to dedicate efforts to make KOffice better?

I mean, evidently you cannot keep track of OpenOffice development.
Personally I'm quite disappointed with tha lack of new features in OO new versions (only bug solving).

I think KOffice promises much more but by now is less mature in terms of format interoperation and WYSIWIGity.
If we talk of extandibility and new apps KOffice devastates.


What's your opinion?

Of course I keep track of the OOo development. I focus on OOo 2.0; e.g. NWF is already in the mainline (http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=31507).

I just do not have enough time to produce a stable 1.1.3 KDE build for the community at the moment so that's why I finally filed 1.1.1 version here. But everyone is still free to build his own 1.1.3 KDE version by grabbing ooo-build-1-3 (http://ooo.ximian.com/ooo-build.html) and building with target KDE.

My intention was to be a little rude because of how frustated I feel with OO.

Your work deserves many thanks because we have a more integrated desktop today.

What can we expect from 2.0 OO release? and when?

Regular OpenOffice is already at 1.1.3. I will pass you by in favor of a more recent version. I think most others will do the same.
