I have a eternal problem with spellcheck and kword, I hope the developers solve it soon. I think kowrd is better than openoffice (just my taste). The problem is kword cannot find any dictionary. The error mesage is: kword: ERROR: No language dictionaries for the language : es Same problem in kpresenter but not in kspread. I've checked kwordrc and changed the default language, without any luck. If someone can solve this problem, pls tell me how. Really thanks. P.S: Sorry for my english, I'm spanish, proud spanish

I agreed totally. For multi language users is Ooo much better. Even the compatibility with MS Office documents is Ooo far away from that of kword. Here is a lot to do but what's done is in the right direction. Best regards J.-L

Sigh, I'm retrying the Ms Office import function at every release, I'd like to get rid of OOo but still KOffice isn't a viable alternative for who needs to often import documents from the "other side of the world". I hope some more attention on this will be put in the next releases....

Ark Linux packages have been updated to 1.5.2 -- Ark Linux users simply apt-get install kword Others in need of RPMs may want to try http://arklinux.osuosl.org/dockyard-devel/SRPMS/koffice-1.5.2-1ark.src.rpm http://arklinux.osuosl.org/dockyard-devel/i586/kword-1.5.2-1ark.i586.rpm

kword handles dark kde styles very bad. when i open a document, first of all everything is black. if i start messing around with frame styles i can get it white, but then the text (that was black-on-black before) becomes white(-on-white). it is really annoying to the point where it makes kword unusable. why is there no place to simply set the background colors, like in kwrite? thanks!

If I choose to close a document instead of quitting the application, KOffice crashes. Not only KWord, but also Kspread and Krita. Any ideas?

Hi! I tried opening OO-created documents in KWord but both *.sxw and *.odt failed. KWord says they are not "OASIS-compatible". I thought at least *.odt is OASIS. Anyway, it it me, or are the formats really incompatible? I would be a shame if they are - linux community should be better united. Anyway, I'd appreciate explanations. Thank you.

I noticed I incorrectly referred to KWord as Kwrite. My apologies, it was late. Still trying to use KWord if I can get spell check to work. Thanks.

ggarndt

OK - Problem Solved - I found where to get the dictionary file.

Just started using latest version of Kwrite on Suse 9.3 in KDE 3.4.b. DE. It seems like Spell Check doesn't have access to a dictionary. Doing spell check highlights every word in the document, and does not provide a replacement word. Is there some library file I still need? I used Yast official Suse mirror to d/l latest version some 3 weeks ago. Any tips?

KWord with kde 3.3.2 does not appear to be able to open MS Doc produced files. The problem seems to be kde rather than KWord - as files can be opened when using any of 1.3.3, 1.3.4 or 1.3.5 with kde 3.3.0.

dth

The problem is caused by the latest version of libgsf (the version with kde 3.3.2) use the version of libgsf with kde 3.3.0 and KWord works fine - opening MS Docs

Is there a chance that KWord gets better SVG support in future releases? Have a look: http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=95738

This is a damn good wordprocessor, with a very slick interface that integrates perfectly with KDE. Sure, it's missing afew advanced features, but I'm confident they'll eventually find their way in there. In fact, the whole kOffice suite is wonderful, and amazingly eay to use. It handles large documents superbly (hundreds of pages), and is quite fast. thesaurus integration is sweet, and it far outclasses what OpenOffice.org offers. kWord, along with the rest of kOffice needs to be developed to reach its fullest potential. It's well on the way. I use it for everything, and have not encountered a single bug. A few minor inconveniences are present, but they're easily wored around. Congrats to the kOffice team for their dedication and hard work!

amazing work you have done, as soon as the spelling and the grammar is fully integrated ; I think this can be the best word processor for linux perhaps? amazing graphical interface, and it makes you feel comfortable if you're writing a research paper or a screenplay. thank you ! :)

How exactly do we get the special library? Is it in the source file? Thanks. Great Work.

Hi What's it? "Signal 11 (sigsegv)" It happens when i try to open doc files with the KWord. How can i fix this bug?

jharper

That's a segmentation fault, or, in english, a crash. You'll need to provide a hefty bit more information about what was going on. What version of KOffice crashed? Did previous versions crash opening the file? Was the version that crashed compiled locally or was it downloaded as a binary? If it was compiled, do you have the backtrace information?

dovidbaron

KWord actually displays Hebrew vowel-signs under the letter, more or less where they do belong. OpenOffice does not do this correctly.
