If you want to access the amarok SVN you could follow the instrucions for SVN on k3b.org but change the name k3b for amarok in each of the lines where it occurs :)
Good luck!

A combination of Amazon and Google would be great, but if I had to choose, I would prefer Google.

Boy does it crash. It crashes with almost every breath I take. It is that crazy.
Well, actually, it is a problem with the coders feeling it is not their responsibility to 1) identify exactly which libraries, etc they were using when they developed it, 2) a lack of responsibility when it comes to trapping errors when those libraries don't match the version they were using to develop it.
The problem with the crashes are exactly that. The developers are NOT taking the time to trap the errors that may be generated by 3rd party sound systems. For instance, the user may choose gstreamer and they may also have alsa and arts installed. Choosing any one of those 3 will cause amaroK to crash wildly if it isn't the right version of gstreamer. Yes, you heard it correctly. If you are using arts or alsa but have the wrong version of gstreamer and you choose to not use gstreamer instead choosing arts or alsa, the program will wildly crash.
This is caused mostly by not documenting and trapping the errors or the lack of proper data structures being sent back by the external sound engines.
The problem that makes this 1000 times worse is that the admin on the amarok.kde.org are inpertinent and tend to attack the users, almost reminding me (and others it seems) of meglomania.
They are rude and will attack you when you report the problems and as of the majority of problems listed, even in their specific forum for asking for help, they don't actually help instead they act contrite and attempt to ridicule and demean you.
This is my experience and my opinion.
The answer to most crashes is to go to the gstreamer home page and download the appropriate gstreamer engine. Keep it up to date.
My suggestion for the developers is to get off your butts and to add the proper trapping for these errors. Otherwise people will be extremely unhappy, and alot of us have been unhappy for a very long time. Posting that you have happy people is disingenuous as there are alot of unhappy people and it all centers around the fact that you won't trap these errors because you don't think it is your responsibility.
There's nothing like passing off the song to be played to these engines and then not watching to ensure that you are reading the right return values so you can properly play/display the song data.

On the other hand, since you are such a coding genius, maybe you could jump into the project and help out, perhaps by trapping a few of those errors you speak so fondly of. A 1337 coder such as yourself must have a few library routines for that sort of thing just sitting there waiting to get integrated into a cool app like amaroK.
Last release, when mxcl responded to your criticism so harshly, I felt a little uncomfortable, like he wasn't being fair, but seeing your ignorance displayed yet again in such a grandiose fashion makes me change my mind. He was spot on.

Catmandu - I'm not sure when you first used a computer, but it is not our responsibilty to make sure your hardware is compatible. We don't have all the hardware and time in the world. We code and give you amaroK for free.
amaroK provides a sound engine frame work in an attempt to allow the user to choose the backend they would like to use. This is the users responsibility.
It is ridiculous to state that we, as developers, have to integrate the sound system you choose with the hardware that you have. This should be the job of either you, or the developers of the multimedia backend.

But would it be possible to have a menu like the konqueror "copy to" and "move to".
A small example :
"move to playlist" :
->"myPlaylist rock.m3u"
->"maPlaylist 60's.m3u"
...
I think it could be an easier way to create and manipulate playlist !
thanks

Smthng else: I spot that to edit id3 tags, pressing F2 works not in most circumstances. Other problem is, that only title of song can be edited with F2. Could it be improved somehow?

2) This program has always been tremendously buggy.
a) It is so bad that people have addressed the bugs on their web site and been lambasted by the admin on that site.
b) The changelog does not indicate that any of the bugs that I have done with their bug reporting tools have been fixed. Not a single one.
All I can say is that it is buggy and continues to be buggy and that they are not approaching it from the perspective of the user. As with most linux software it is being developed by and for the developer not for the users.

1) Package building should be maintained by your distro. We don't have the resources to build packages for every distro.
2) Maybe it's your engine that's tremendously buggy.
a) I can't say anybody would refuse a bug fix. Some bugs are more critical than others, also consider regressions.
b) What bugs? Like seb stated, minor releases are for the more important bugs.
So finally, why not offer some suggestions instead of just ranting. We have had many discussions, blogs, and forum posts regarding usability, so yes we do consider the user. Also, if you watch the developer's blogs, you'll find that feature adds for upcoming versions are discussed and are an excellent form of feedback.
And if all of these forms aren't your taste, we also have an irc channel #amarok on irc.freenode.org, we'll be waiting for your suggestions.
