Description: kdetv is a KDE application to watch TV on the desktop.
Features of kdetv include deinterlacing (DScaler algorithms), three view modes, a channel scanner, the ability to import the channel files of three other TV programs, teletext and closed caption decoding, and an easy-to-use graphical user interface. The application supports remote controls using KDELIRC, a component shipped in KDE 3.2.
kdetv requires KDE libraries version 3.2 or above, a TV tuner card with video4linux or XVIDEO-input support, and an ALSA or OSS compatible mixer device.
I second the dev question. This is a nice program, and I hope that the development hasn't stopped on it. I have a couple of issues that I'd like to see a solution to:
1. Channels are not remembered when I reboot
2. Sound device selections are also not remembered
There are random crashes I haven't figured out enough to file a bug yet.
Kdetv has been taken by another guy or team and they have already ported it to kde4. Gentoo users can have a look at the live ebuild available in kde-crazy overlay
in suse 10.2 kdetv works fine, but in suse10.3 can`t start channel wizard.I have saved channel.xml ,I can import it,very good image but no sound.Any ideeas?
I''m using a pinnacle DC10Plus analog capture, and no interlacing, actually looks better than interlacing. I still can't read half of the words or see how beautiful the textures are on my xbox games... suggestions?
My home TV set gives me a chance to see the actual time in OSD in the right or left upper corner. This is helpful while waiting on one channel for the movie on another channel at a specific time.
I would like to see that on kdetv too (think about fullscreen mode). I think about a plugin with
- place where the time should be displayed
- font family and font size
- a shortcut key for toggle on/off
There's no need to get the time from the tv stations, the system time would be the best (it's more acurate).
There should be a lot of people who liked that and I think it's not too complicated to solve.
Novell now makes this available through YaST Online Update as an optional download titled "Multimedia Option" (There's 4 available for various media library files and software). Congratulations to the developer on this software.
Cheers :)
What high quality TV tuner should I get for kdetv? I am running Debian 3.1 and have a GeForce 6800 Ultra, and I'd like the easiest TV tuner to get working that I can get. Thanks.
Hauppauge WinTV pci cards should be very easy to set up. Generally speaking, analog TV cards that use the bt8x8 chipset should work with Linux and kdetv. "Common" models are autodetected by the bttv driver and are thus easier to install.
In France, DVB-T will be rolled out on March 14th 2005. Will kdetv supports DVB-T cards?
Note: Analog tv will be stopped in 2010.
Example of cards I may purchase:
- ADS Tech Instant TV DVB-T PCI
- Hauppauge WinTV NOVA-t PCI
- Pinnacle PCTV MediaCenter 300i
Hello, I really like your app, but there is however one problem: I got this leadtek winfast 2000 tv card with my computer, and I can't get it to work with the local tv standard (france - secam l) the board can decode that, 'cause under windows it works. is there any way to select the standard? because I could only find pal / ntsc / secam options.

saa7134 cards are not allways easy to setup but give an excellent result. They are also very well fit for recording via mencoder.
nice app , someone might code autocollapse search for channels though.. something like juk playlist search, would be nice and usable addition
Would only make sense for a huge amount of channels, but most people have less than 40 channels

This is not planned by me ATM and noone else volunteered to do it up to now.

Try out the new v4l2 plugin in 0.8.4 (enable compilation in plugins/video/Makefile.am). It should present all norms your tuner supports.
Great app! It also fixes the mute on exit bug :). 10/10!
