looks more like a problem with kdelibs.
what kde version are you using?

just to be clear, not a problem with (or in) kdelibs but just related to it... (probably, that method was added recently).

At the beginning: thanks for the app. It's very useful.

My problems:
1) when i play video using mplayer backend (I don't have gstreamer), if I press "stop" and the "play" again, there is no audio. My Mplayer version: MPlayer 1.0rc1-4.0.3
2) I have'nt understood what means "link this line to the video"....

My requests:
3) a spinbox for fine video timing
4) xinelib (kaffeine) backend

glad you find it useful.

the will be no more video backends until the app is ported to KDE4, when i'll add a phonon backend (unless someone else is willing to do it). i would however, try to fix the mplayer problem (which i can already confirm as a bug on my part :S) and release a fix a soon as possible. as a side note, i don't know why you don't have gstreamer, but if possible i suggest you install it as the mplayer backend can't do accurate seeking (i try to work around that, but there's only so much i can do).

Quote:2) I have'nt understood what means "link this line to the video"....
"link current line to video" (which should be "link current line to video position"), means that the current line (the active one on the view) will be automatically set according to the video position (when the video is playing). that's what the icon attempts to suggest (i guess it's not very clear though...)

Quote:My requests:
3) a spinbox for fine video timing
4) xinelib (kaffeine) backend
i'm not sure if you're referring to this, but there is already a spinbox for accurate video seeking: right click on the video information controls and check "Show editable position control" (see the 2nd screenshoot). again, this doesn't help much with mplayer as it's seek accuracy is in the order of seconds... (i think mplayer can only jump through key frames).
btw, kaffeine can't be used as a video backend but xinelib can.

Argh! I haven't seen this before.Thank you.

I really like this app. Nice work!

I have a suggestion: In the Settings window I can choose only MPlayer as video player backend, but I don't use it. I have Kaffeine and VLC. It would be great if you could include support for more players in the next versions.

Would be nice to have a spinbox to quickly adjust subtitles sync, and then easily aplly these values to selected/all subtitles.
Also waveform is very nice feature from SubtitleEditor

1. It would be great to manualy set current video position, as it's done for subtitles - via spinbox
2. Also you could highlite phrase which is currently being shown
3. Add a small button near subtitle timing spinboxes, which will set spinbox value to current movie time

1,3. You can already seek to a given line by double clicking on it so there's no need for an additional button. given that, i don't see the need for a permanent position spinbox, though perhaps a "jump to position" dialog to allow accurately seeking could be useful for some.
2. doable, but i'll add an option to quickly enable/disable synchronization as some people (me at least) edit their subtitles with the movie playing and having the current line change on you would be very annoying.

Report

prizident

2. I didnt mean to select subtitles, but just highlight current line with some color
1. Jump to dialog won't be very useful if I want to ajust current video position by some seconds, so changin text label with spinbox will allow me to do it quickly with mouse wheel
3. I mean setting any of two subtitle spinboxes (show or hide) to current movie time with just a button click. Now I should only input it from keyboard, but that's inconvinient

thanks for the clarifications.
2. again, doable (not sure it buys much, but it would look cooler :-)
3. already done.
i'm still not convinced about 1. if the point is going back a few seconds, then what's wrong with using the slider? granted, it currently jumps to much, but that could be arranged. there's another issue however, and it's that seeking is SLOW, issuing a lot of seeking commands simultaneously would drag the thing down (hence, it would probably suck anyway). i've added a few actions to go back and forward a configurable amount of time, and to jump to previous/next line, perhaps those could fill that use case?

Report

Setting timig via spinbox is all ways more convinient then via slider. You could also add both of them - slider for easy seeking and spinbox for fine adjustment. Also you can avoid too high loads by making a small pause after last change of spinbox and only after that perform real seeking

Hello!

I have not yet tried to install your program, but for the screenshot the first thing that came on my mind was URUsoft`s Subtitle Workshop.
This is an application that I used to use when I was working on windows (more than two years ago), and it is the best application for subtitle editing I have seen so far!

If you like take a look on it to grab some ideas for your program ;)
I don`t want to be a "Subtitle Workshop" but if it had some of it`s features it would be great :)

In most cases I use only one feature for subtitle editing - and use Ksubtile for this. Select a phrase from list, then select it's timing and move it and all the rest phrases accordingly. I dont have to select all phrases, but just first, and all others are moved as well/ Would be nice to have such feature

could you elaborate? i'm not sure i'm following you... you mean something like arranging the lines by dragging them and then changing the times? (i've checked ksubtile but don't understand how it works...)

Report

prizident

It's a "Move" tab in Ksubtile. I select required phrase, then play movie to the time where this phrase begins, then press button with small clock and phrase begining is being set to the current movie time. And all of of the rest subtitles are shifted accordingly (but not those which are before this phrase). Also in this mode I can only change timing for beginning of phrase, end time is shifted automatically, so duration doesn't change
