Description: Kivio is an easy to use diagramming and flowcharting application with tight integration to the other KOffice applications. It enables you to create network diagrams, organisation charts, flowcharts and more.Last changelog:
I am big fan of Dia, but my users prefer kivio, my feature request has got to do with the linking lines. In Dia I can manipulate the lines brilliantly, ie to be able to run a long an edge with only using one line from switch to PC, kivio, is unable to do this. It is also unble to flip / rotate objects which DIA can also do..
Awesome release! I really love the new text editor dialog box, and the properties box added!
I've used this tool many a times to create flowcharts and plot out ideas. It's marvelous, I love its functionality and is great for just doing some simple flowcharts.
Of course this product is not going to reach the entire feature set of Microsoft Visio right away. Considering the staff size, I'd say Peter is doing an awesome job!
Before exporting the page as a vector image (for example SVG) is implemented, a very useful option would be the ability to change the DPI for exported bitmaps. Images exported with the screen resoultion are useles for printed documents.
Personally, i think kivio will become much nicer when you implement some magic shapes like visio, currently, im sad to say visio is the only microsoft product I like and will use, and it would be nice to see kivio replace that.
By magic shapes i mean shapes with modifier handles, ie: 3 point circles.
Also CSG would be nice.
Ive always used Visio as a Vector graphics tool *grin* cos i dont personally fancy using bezier splines.
Last time (last version with debian packages). I checked kivio, the export function where really limited. This stopped me from working with kivio, cause I didn't found a way to get my sheet out of that program. I would like to see at least .eps and .svg export.
which formats are supported in the new version?
red
You can export (Page->Export page...) to the following formats with different degrees of success (depending on how good Qt is to export to it from QPixmap): eps, bmp, jpeg, png, pbm, pgm, pcx, ppm, rgb, xbm, xpm, tga and xv
Well that might take quite a while as currently I'm the only person working on kivio and just making things work as expected takes all my time at the moment.
What we need in the open source community are more people who say "I can". We all need to "Turn our brains on" (freecapitalist.com) and say "Yeah, there is a feature here that I would love to see implemented. What can I do about it?"
What am I doing about it? I'm getting involved. I'm joining mailing lists, I'm meddling with code and submitting patches. By doing so I'm learning from the styles and techniques of dozens of programmers. I'm doing what I can. Go open source.
I really really really want to rotate stencils :(

Note that I didn't use it since 2001 but some people tried... unsuccessfully.

I just hope someday Kivio fully compatible with Visio file.

It'll hopefuly be implemented in the next release...assuming I get the time to do it. First I need to clean up the core.
