Description:
This is ManDVD again, still in QT3. Its a DVD authoring tool that was originally written by KDE-apps member Gibault Stéphane. I've used it for myself for some time, but the development seemed to have stopped. Anyway I decided to try to fix some of the things that I wasn't pleased with. So I'm sharing it here if someone wants to try it out. I decided to call it version 2.5 since all I could find was old 2.4 versions to download. If I do something wrong by this please forgive my ignorance. I usually don't write that much software.

LATEST VERSION INFO (2.6-1): Most work on fixing bugs and some experimental work on higher resolution, breaking the DVD standard doing so. (Please test that on your own risk) VLC seems to play it OK, but else not much is known. Time has been limited to do proper test cases of different combinations of media in general.

There is also now a standard intro video available and logo and splash as been redesigned. Thanks Simon and Mathias from SMIT2. (Details are in the changelog)

* Old saved projects can not be used from ver2.5 series.
* Version 2.6 is more adjusted for 16:9 in general
* Please help with bug reporting and packing for other distos.

Any feedback are much welcome. Good or bad as long as its constructive.

TRANSLATION: Can now be done with QT-Linguist.

Done QT-Ling : Swedish, English
Done old style: Portuguese, German (Update needed)

Hi! I am running 2.6-1 beta on Ubuntu 10.10, and have a movie in a Matroska .mkv file. The file also contains the subtitling, but I have not found a way to get ManDVD to use/include the subtitling when producing the DVD.

Mandvd is a great piece of software of a little buggy. I was trying to pick an image from a video to use as a title background when the program crashed and took away my Ubuntu panels in the process. Had to reinstall Ubuntu. If you can fix this bug it would be great. But next time ai try it I'll use a screengrab from VLC.

Steve000

Should have read "but a little buggy".

I have similar issue under Kubuntu 11.04 64bit (KDE 4.7). Always when I will try extract picture from video ManDVD will crash with error message: Unauthorized access to memory (SIGSEGV).

There should be a way to direct splitting a very large movie, like Avatar, into several DVDs. An i386 rpm.spec would be nice. I had to patch the qmake and make file to build it on an i386. The screen capture crashes the program.

Could I suggest adding a button to the main startup screen to delete the lock file or to the error dialog box? If ManDVD exits out or crashes? (For those that don't know where to look for the .ManDVD directory to delete the .run file) :-)

Hi, I'm new to using ManDVD. Seems very simple to use...I'm using v2.6-1 beta. Thanks for keeping ManDVD alive :-) Noticed some odd things though, trying to create DVD menus, using Ubuntu 10.x, kernel 2.6.35-25 generic. I'm able to get pass the first screen of setting up NTSC/destination folder ... etc. I get to the screen of adding video to the project. I can add titles okay, title 1-4 shows a nice graphic;that it's added but title 5-6 shows a blank (black screen) after it's added. Otherwise, works fine. When I click on add video, the dialog box comes up for choosing the file, I drag/re-size the title column to see the long filenames. And the title column resets to only 7 chars wide when pressing the scroll down button. I drag/resize again and the title column again resets to 7 chars. And on the 3rd time the width of the title column sticks properly. If I add a video and choose the button, add an image from video, the video plays, and when I click on the camera for a screenshot, mandvd quits. I can get around this by using VLC and taking a snapshot that way. One other thing that's odd, I set up the video title when adding videos, and click on next, setup a (mostly black) bkgnd picture, next and add video to the bkgnd picture. I'm not able to see any video title, even though the text is set to white (default) on the previous screen. And the highlight (red and green (default) doesn't seem to highlight. As if the selection is invisible. Burning video is okay, can play okay on normal DVD player, but selection is invisible. I'd be nice to be able to save your work during each stage of the creation or at the end of the project :-))) Keep up the good work, looking forward to the next release.

named with portuguese accents (í,á,ó...). This happens at the encode time. The console gives a message like: "file /home/william/vídeo.avi not found". Only works when the file is renamed without accents. I'm using Debian 5.0 and Mandvd 2.5-5. Cheers.

Hello.! I know it a very late answer but maybe you would like to try the new Beta. I tried to fix this issue there.

GuiGuy

Can a slideshow be made in 16:9 aspect?

try0again

It would be nice if you could remove the restriction to only 20 videos.

micko

Hello, I know this is a very late respons but I haven't had any time to do some hacking with mandvd. I tried to increase up to 35 videos. The way Mandvd handles titles sets a limit there it seams. Consider this a BETA testing.

qmake make fixed the problem for me (which seems a reasonable replacement for configure)

Hi, i made all the steps to create the DVD, but, after dvd creation, mandvd doesn't found enough disk space to finalize. Is there a way to re use the menu.mpg and the other files that the app has created?

From the original author (Stéphane Gibault) ManDVD successor is ready ( http://kde-apps.org/content/show.php/2ManDVD?content=99450 ) and add new features (multi menu, animated thumbail, resizable windows, saving project, etc ...) You should test it ... Stéphane

micko

OK, I'll hope ver. 2.5-5 will fix this. I'm sorry for my long silence. I've been to busy to attend anything to this code. Maybe I can find some time now, but I saw that 2MANDVD is developing. Probably the right thing to go for :-)
