Description: Valknut is a program the uses the Direct Connect protocol. It is compatible with other DC clients, such as the original DC from Neomodus, DC++ and derivatives. Valknut also interoperates with all common DC hub software.
This project is almost dead ( . If u are a good programmer please HELP !!Last changelog:
14-06-2006 preparing for death 3-05-2006 removed debian packages links;added forum and screenshots links rename from dcgui-qt
actually..with a good qt theme, you can turn valknut in a pretty nice client
Function are poor but right..you have all you need
and build from scratch..is not a dc-clone..:)
please don't stop the project..:(
Valknut was the best and only usable Direct Connect client around until the CPU issue came around.
I hope someone has the balls to continue this project!
adding new feature or some code line is not impossible..
c'mon..someone take the project and workin on it^^
the best difficult,i think,it will be the porting to qt4
Hi,
don't know even, why it's posted as updated. It's still version 0.3.7 from 2005. Perhaps just a reminder to not forget this app ;-)
RIP valknut
m0nk
As soon as I connect to a hub with a big number of users, the UI responds very slowly and CPU usage goes up to 100% and turns unusable.
Is there a way to get around this?
I must say that Valknut is a great application, but I can't seem to do one thing that I could in dc++. I can't see anyone's IP unless I right-click the username and click "Check client version". It's a hassle for me since I use valknut in an institution with a big subnet and I try to download from people closest to me.
I solved! With italian language "enter" button is called "invio" button into file dcgui.cfg (/home/xxx/.dc/),
[ sendchat Enter /sendchat ]
,so valknut do not undestand "Invio", "Ctrl+Invio" and "Alt+Invio". The DC Client undestands only "Alt+S" because is the same in english and in italian. The solution is: not change language! ;-)
I've the "ENTER problem" too. In the next version can you put a sort of search users box (like the box in all Windows dc under the user list)? Sorry for my english "maccheronico" :-P
hy..i'm Divilinux..
tnx for making possible this great gui for direct connect..the client works great even without multidownload..
i came from dc++ and the only difficult due to migration was the gui i didn't found in others linux dc clients..
now a debian user just start apt-get install valknut to install program..:)
this can make me convert my friends to the Penguin..Kubuntu in particular.
Just a question..the message to sand in mainchat doesn't work with ENTER button...why?..i've noticed that if u start Valknut first time..without open the transfer windows..u can send messages with
ENTER..but when u open transferts list this not still work..and i must select a
unconfortable ALT+S...
i't my fault?..or wath..:)

Such a shame to see this project die. Although I don't really like Valknut's interface, it's the most complete GUI client I've found for Linux
i've modified many dc++ client for win..in the past but i don't know qt and his gui.. THe code is simple and fresh..but i can't buid from scratch..:(
...but I'm not a good coder. Although I can test and report bugs. Heh, it may be an opportunity to learn C++ and QT :)

Is valknut dead? 0.3.7 is very old. Would be very bad if the only decent Linux DC client would not evolve...
