to --enable-unity in a minor release is pretty confusing. 1.2.1 is supposed to be a bugfix release to 1.2.0 and builds should continue to work without changes.
I understand your point of view. Unfortunately ubuntu forced me, and millions of linux users, to switch to unity: so I had to add the support. Maybe I should have called it 1.3 instead of 1.2.1?
I think you just should not have made it default so that Unity support is only enabled if users --enable-unity explicitly.
