I'm curious about your panels' behaviour: do you let them be hidden by windows or maybe you set them as always visible? I consider a change on my conventional desktop with one panel on the bottom but I can't imagine that some of buttons or shortcuts might be not available everytime I need it (e.g. after closing all windows). I wonder what is your solution.

The panels on the left and on the bottom are always visible. Windows are not allowed to hide them.
