10 one of my all time favorites. He's correct. In all the years KDE has never had anything like it. Well now there's Korilla, but the icons don't descend down below the line so it's just not the same. The icons are classic too!

hmm iwant to download it bjhut it seems to be linked to a screenshot unfair i wanted to see the theme im action....

Wikipedia is your friend. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNOME#Origin His comments are kinda understandable now, aren't they? No need to get yourself all worked up. GNOME's his baby, of course he loves it. ;-)

Whether you use KDE or Gnome, that doesn't matter. Bottom line is that whoever this guy is, is an idiot, who obviously is one who feels that everything he has to do has to be superior to everyone else. He's the annoying guy that has to insist that his computer is "better" than yours, that competes against others to try and get a better benchmark, that CARES about such useless things... Hey, buddy: NOBODY CARES! **What's the policy on swearing here... discouraged?

Is it just me that's glad KDE doesn't look like this? Kinda plain-jane, and those icons are horrible. Gives me the impression of being for children, because they are so cartoonish. Just one persons insignificant opinion. . .

KDE is a nice "functional," neat looking little GUI for me, ;p~ (w/ the occasional crash, but then they /all/ do that now don't they =)) ~b

I am taking begining unix classes at a local college. Most of the computers are running Linux with x windows starting by default. Of those who immediatly started using X windows machines this was the split between those who used KDE and those who used Gnome. 13 People started using KDE 7 People started using Gnome Also note that there was no default X windows selected on login. At the end of the class I again tallied the number of people using diffrent window managers. 11 People used KDE at the end. 9 People used Gnome at the end. So with all the argueing its just a personal choice, niether Gnome or KDE is winning by any great stride.

I think the way this is presented is pathetic and asks for a flamewar. Like said above, Linux is all about choice. If Linux would be a system without choice, I would've used Windows right now. If you like Gnome, use it. If you like KDE, use it. If you like Enlightenment, use it. If you like the command line, use it. And both Gnome and KDE's default looks are ugly. No offense to the authors, but such a nice DE should also have a nice visual look IMHO. I really hope KDE will ever get a professional and clean looking default theme/style. [/rant]

First off, there shouldn't be a war between KDE and Gnome. KDE 3.0beta2 handles Gnome apps well and even imprts GTK themes. So, use what you want, that's what Linux is about....choice!

Bescause of the fact that I cant post a screenhot of gnome on this site :( I like to give a link to a shot of how gnome CAN look like http://www.deviantart.com/deviation.php?id=192498 I hope you like it

heheh, yes a very nice screenshot indeed, although whoever would want their window decoration to resemble Mac system 7.1 is beyond me.

What I find amusing about GNOME users is they think we're all going to use GNOME because it looks good. Sure, it's a great looking desktop, but it lacks a few things like, oh, usability, native apps, lack of useless overhead. The aim of this site was to make a K Desktop pleasing, which it does. KDE looks much better than GNOME ever will in my opinion. It's clean, readable, the interface isn't cluttered, and I like that. GNOME with Nautilus is slow, difficult to use, and unless I just want to manage files and edit Abiword docs, GNOME isn't my thing.

I am a gnome user but I think that trolling sucks from both camps, I use gnome because it look beter (in my opnion) and is quicker than kde 2.2.x (on my humble 1ghz), I do recommend kde to people who come from windows because kde looks and works a lot like windows.. Gnome and kde are both relativly easy to use (both have their deficiencies), and I think that with gnome 2, gnome will come on the same level as kde 3.x when it comes to things as font handeling and transparancy..

archpollux

Almost all these Gnome users are Redhat users. Gnome was the first thing they saw when they installed it and then for some reason they thought it was the best. The problem is much deeper with you guys, the problem is with your distro.

JabberWokky

This guy is an ass. He's showing a link to a Gnome theme crowing "You guys will never have this, nyaa, nyaa". If you want this icon theme for KDE, go download Kong. http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php?content=925 -- Evan

tackat

> This guy is an ass. No, he's just childish and clueless. According to one of our developers we'll have SVG-icons in KDE by the end of this week. That might be too late for KDE 3.0 but who cares anyways? SVG support is technically nice and might have quite some benefits in the longterm - but not for now.

betatux

great, i mean the theme is great, but the wallpaper is fantastic, where can i get it???

basse

hmm.. I don't see why I couldn't make my kde look that way? it's just a theme.. with too big icons and the whole interface looks like it's designed for people under 2 years old.. ? why everytthing has to be this way now.. sigh.. .b

riccardog

hi, nice shot! but I just switched to kde after two years of GNOME, and I won't switch back for a long time I think, because KDE is better. Anyway, thanks to ximian and to all gnome developers, KDE and GNOME are getting better every day and that's what's matters.

mouseparanoia

this is a cool wallpaper u used on your screenshots, but i can't find it on your homepage. where can i get it?

romanofski

Yeah.. the graphics made by jimmac rocks! And we should thank good for graphic designers like jimmac. They make cool stuff for the linux box. And i think there is no KDE vs. Gnome. Everybody can choose their own look and feel and this is the fact! The Icons of jimmac looking really great.. cool..

anonymous-hive

i like those icons. where can I get them?

anonymous-hive

scroll up there in the infobox is a link named 'Link' click there.

luci

...but i don't expect them very useable on my poor slow comp. if i'd used gnome, i will prefer probably these (by the same author - jimmac): http://primates.ximian.com/~tigert/new_stock_project/ yes, jimmac is great graphics designer - one of the best i ever seen on net - and he choosed gnome. anyway there are great artists (everaldo) contributing to KDE too - some links to their cool work you can find e.g. here: http://news.kde.org/1012076875/ (btw: _this_ kde-look user miguelicaza - i don't really understand him, what he's looking for here...)
